Soft Toy Making Tip – How to Make your Own Sewing Pattern Templates!

Sep 27, 2023 | Blog, Toy-making TIPS & TUTORIALS

I want you to know that you don’t have to get scammed trying to buy pattern templates! (If you missed my blog post about about the ‘invasion’ of Scam Adverts for Pattern Templates, you can Click HERE to read it.)

It’s EASY and soooooo cheap
to make pattern templates at home!

My friend Kylie of Voodoo Rabbit Fabric  helped me make this quick video to show you how EASY it is to make your own sewing pattern templates –

Just click on the image below to see HOW!

If you are in Australia you can try your local fabric shop or you can buy template plastic online from Kylie  – she sells template plastic sheets individually – so you can even buy 1 sheet to test it!

Happy toy making!!!

 bye for now,

Thanks for the video! I’d like to know how to sew tight curves like the Plattie Platypus feet.

I skip the tracing part altogether by using a tape runner loaded with repositional tape. Simply run a couple tape lines onto pattern pieces then position them beneath the template plastic. Easy to see the cut lines. I leave my paper pattern pieces in place for identification. Can always remove the paper when fussy cutting.

I use the plastic cutting mats from the dolla store. I also use clear packing tape over my sharpie markings because sometimes they do rub off.

These are great ideas. I have overhead projector plastic paper I print my patterns on that cut it out and it works perfectly. Just another idea.

I use flexible cutting boards ( £4 for 2 from Amazon ) and sharpies
Works a dream and then you’ve got reusable templates 😊
