Meet the Best Wishes BABY BIRD Pattern!🩵

Feb 7, 2026 | Blog, NEW Toy Patterns

The Best Wishes Baby Bird has been getting a LOT of LOVE already and the testers have been thrilled by how quick and fun he was to sew PLUS how cute he’s been turning out! Scroll down to see heaps of Baby Birds in a variety of fabrics, as well as keepsake birds made from clothes, and some realistic birds and some wild and fuzzy (nowhere near realistic!) birds too! If you’re looking for ideas, inspiration, or pattern details, you’ll find that all below…

He’s an easy, non-jointed memory toy pattern with LOTS of options:

You can use pre-loved clothing items to create a memory toy (keepsake toy) OR you can use all NEW fabrics for your BABY BIRD toy ~>

or use BOTH, like I did with this pretty pink baby Bird!

What size is Best Wishes?

The Best Wishes Baby Bird is 23cm/9 inches tall. Here is a pic of me with two Best Wishes Keepsake BABY BIRDs – so you can see the size!

AND here he is hanging out with some of the Funky Friends Factory Bears – Melody Memory Bear and Ben the BEGINNER Bear. So he’s a fair bit smaller than a memory bear BUT he has lots of space for adding embroidery and other embellishments.

Best Wishes BABY BIRD has LOTS of cool features!😎

  • He is an unjointed, sturdy ‘sitting toy’ designed for playtime, memory toys or even decor!
  • He’s a ‘quick finish’ as there’s no hand sewing on his face.
  • No visible hand sewing: stuffing gap hidden on base!
  • His “no-seam” tummy has a 5 inch / 12.7cm grid marked for easy centering of embroidery.
  • He has cute floppy wings with a 3inch/7.6cm grid marked for initials, names or dates.

Is there a Photo tutorial?

YES! I have created a step-by-step photo tutorial so you can see EXACTLY how to sew this cute mini bird – with lots of clever toy making tips and tricks! As usual, you can access the tutorial using the link in the See-Me-Sew section of the pattern.

an error page! 😱

Is this an EASY pattern?

Most of the testers said that the Best Wishes Baby Bird was fun to make because it was simple and quick to sew. They said the beak was the hardest bit but easy if you take your time and use lots of pins.

Best Wishes has 2 embroidery spaces (with grids)!

The Best Wishes Baby Bird has a large, single-piece tummy with a 5 x 5inch space for embroidering a “Happy Birthday” or  “Merry Christmas” message and the wings have a 3 x 3inch grid marked up for embroidering.

Here you can see how the embroidery areas are marked with grids on the pattern pieces for easy centering/set up for placement of embroidery designs. You can add names & dates using hand or machine embroidery or heat transfer vinyl (cut with a Cricut machine or similar).

He’s perfect for baby clothes keepsakes.

Janine M. used used her sons old baby clothes (that she said she couldn’t bare to throw away!) to sew this adorable baby keepsake version of the Best Wishes Baby Bird. Baby Bird is definitely a “little dude with BIG attitude”! 😂

Olivia C. sewed this baby keepsake Best Wishes Baby Bird for a good friend using a part of a onesie for its tummy. I love the way she combined this with other fabric textures – minky fleece for the other pieces and quilting cotton for the beak.

And this delightful long-pile fur Best Wishes Baby Bird was sewn by Cherrie Duchi and she also added some amazing eyelashes!💛

💡Tester’s TIP for thick fur💡

Both Candi Keates and Cherrie Duchie said that they used a thin cotton fabric for under the wings to reduce the bulk.👍😁

Shirley Bray sewed this fun fleece & fur combo Best Wishes Baby Bird for a prize gift in a competition she’s running on their cruise next month. She’s added fun text to the tummy and wings with Heat Transfer Vinyl, to personalise the prize.🏆

Terrific Textures!

Sharron Machin  sewed this fluffy Best Wishes Baby Bird from a tufted cotton which gives a feathered effect.

Anna O. used a lot of fantastic textured fabrics for her Best Wishes Baby Bird from the embossed mustard minky to the short pile fur fabrics on the tummy and wing tips and tail – this would make a fantastic tactile toy for a baby!.

Marie Braithwaite sewed this Best Wishes Baby Bird as a precious keepsake toy using some of her late grandmother’s clothing. Look at that tummy – it was her grandmother’s aran cardigan!💗🥰

Paula Sue Balch sewed this Best Wishes Baby Bird from a fun mix of cottons and added a bit of marabou feather trim for a party look!💃🎉🥳
