From what I have read <strong>the main concern is for children UNDER 3 years of age<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"padding: 10px 10px; margin: 30px 0px; border: 3px dashed #c930a1; color: #000000;\">\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #c930a1;\">\u26a0\ufe0f<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER<\/span>:\u26a0\ufe0f<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">PLEASE NOTE<\/span>: I am a single person (a home sewist like YOU!) and the information in this blog post is limited to what I have been able to find online, at a particular point in time. The guidelines below are commonly accepted toy safety practices in the international community BUT toy safety regulations vary by country. There are SOME links to toy safety guidelines at\u00a0 the bottom of this page BUT this list is not exhaustive and may not be the latest information because I cannot possibly access EVERY country&#8217;s legal standards. <strong>*** Please consult your specific country&#8217;s toy safety guidelines. ***<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">Main toy safety concerns for children from birth, up to 3 years old:<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">1. Choking dangers,<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">2. Be aware of Choking Hazards<\/span>:<\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">Baby toys should have baby-safe eyes (NO eyes &amp; NO plastic noses!). See this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.funkyfriendsfactory.com\/blog\/how-to-make-baby-safe-eyes-for-memory-bears-and-soft-toys\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">blog posts devoted to Baby Safe Toy Eyes<\/span><\/strong><\/a> for ideas.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote style=\"padding: 10px 10px; margin: 30px 0px; border: 3px dashed #c930a1; color: #000000;\">\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #c930a1;\">This includes plastic &#8220;safety eyes&#8221;?<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: segoe; font-size: 24pt;\">They&#8217;re not actually baby-safe!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\"><strong>The term &#8220;safety eye&#8221; is a marketing term only, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">not a classification based on safety testing<\/span><\/strong>! Plastic toy eyes are not included in this baby-safe toy eyes blog post because any small plastic piece could be a choking hazard. Check the plastic eye packaging&#8230;it will say &#8220;not for use with children under 3.&#8221; Why are they a danger? Plastic pieces or the fabric around them can degrade and break, causing a choking hazard. Therefore, I prefer the term &#8220;craft eye&#8221; instead of &#8220;safety eye,&#8221; and use that language in my patterns. (I have seen a lot of toys around lately with these squidgy polystyrene beads and was wondering where to source it \u2013 BUT I think I\u2019ll cross that off my list now!)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">2. Be aware of strangulation risks<\/span>:<\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">Long strings and ribbons can strangle a baby. Avoid toxic or harmful materials<\/span>:<\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">When sewing homemade toys, it is best to use new, hypo-allergenic toy stuffing, and non-toxic marker pens and non-toxic craft glues.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">If your toys are sewn with fabrics bought from a reputable source like your local fabric shop, they will be unlikely to be made using toxic dyes and harmful chemicals.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">If you are sewing a toy for someone who has particular health concerns, like asthma, organic fabrics and\u2019 certified chemical-free fabrics\u2019 can be used and these are much more widely available these days \u2013 (usually online).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-22461\" style=\"border: 1px solid #a8a5a9;
