I wouldn\u2019t recommend this pattern for beginners because the tusks and trunk are a little bit fiddly. If you are new to sewing toys you should look at my easy patterns<\/strong><\/a> instead!<\/span><\/p>\n

(I wanted to explain this so you are not disappointed if you have found this page via a search engine and not from the link in my Georgie the Good Luck Elephant Sewing Pattern<\/strong>)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Start with the TUSKS:<\/span><\/h1>\n

STEP 1
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the TUSK PIECES<\/strong><\/span> together in pairs.<\/p>\n

STEP 2<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Trim the seams to 3mm(\u215b inch) and turn the TUSKS<\/strong><\/span> right sides out.<\/p>\n

TIP:<\/strong> I like to use a wooden chopstick to help turn the seams nicely. Run the end of the stick back and forth along the stitching inside until the seam is nice and smooth.<\/p>\n

STEP 3
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Stuff the TUSKS<\/strong><\/span> with a small bit of toy stuffing – don\u2019t overstuff them – you want them to be quite flat!<\/p>\n

STEP 4a
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin the TUSKS<\/strong><\/span> to the HEAD PIECES<\/strong><\/span>, using the pattern markings to guide you.<\/p>\n

STEP 4b
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Fold the fabric of the HEAD PIECES<\/strong><\/span> right sides together and sew the tusk darts closed with the TUSKS<\/strong><\/span> \u2018inside\u2019 the tusk dart.<\/p>\n

STEP 4c
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin each TUSK<\/strong><\/span> to the HEAD PIECE<\/strong><\/span> so it points to the front and sew a line of stitching across the base of each TUSK<\/strong><\/span>, sewing through all layers of the TUSK<\/strong><\/span> and the HEAD PIECE<\/strong><\/span>. This will make the TUSKS<\/strong><\/span> \u2018lie down flat\u2019 and face the front!<\/p>\n

TRUNK GUSSET:<\/span><\/h1>\n

STEP 5a
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin the TRUNK GUSSET PIECE<\/strong><\/span> to one of the HEAD PIECES<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n

STEP 5b
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the TRUNK GUSSET PIECE<\/strong><\/span> to the HEAD PIECE<\/strong><\/span> from A \u2013 B but do NOT sew to the edge of the TRUNK GUSSET PIECE<\/strong><\/span> – stop at point B. (see diagram below)<\/p>\n

STEP 6

Pin and sew the other HEAD PIECE<\/strong><\/span> to the TRUNK GUSSET PIECE<\/strong><\/span> and sew them together from A – B.<\/p>\n

STEP 7
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin and sew the HEAD PIECES<\/strong><\/span> together from B – C, leaving them open between C and D. (This is very important<\/span><\/strong> so it\u2019s easier to sew the neck seam later!)<\/p>\n

STEP 8a
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Clip the seams very well and turn the trunk right sides out and use a wooden chopstick to turn the seams so they are nice and smooth.<\/p>\n

STEP 8b
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Stuff the trunk area of the HEAD PIECES<\/strong><\/span> now. It is really hard to stuff the trunk later on so do this now.<\/p>\n

EYES:<\/span><\/h1>\n

STEP 9
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

If you are using craft eyes, insert them now.<\/p>\n

STEP 10
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the EAR PIECES<\/strong><\/span> together in pairs and turn them right sides out. Trim the seam allowance to 3mm(\u215b inch) and turn the EAR PIECES<\/strong><\/span> right sides out and use a wooden chopstick to help turn the seams smoothly.<\/p>\n

STEP 11
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Fold the top of the EAR PIECES<\/strong><\/span> down as shown by the pattern markings and pin and tack (baste) the fold down so it won\u2019t slip as you sew the EARS<\/strong><\/span> in place.<\/p>\n

STEP 12

Pin and tack (baste) the EARS<\/strong><\/span> in place between the pattern markings on the HEAD PIECES<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n

TIP:<\/strong> Make sure that the fold of the EAR<\/span><\/strong> is touching the HEAD PIECE<\/strong><\/span> as you\u00a0 in it in position so they will be facing the right way!<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n

FRONT & BACK (BODY):<\/span><\/h1>\n

STEP 13
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the FRONT PIECES<\/strong><\/span> to the BACK PIECES<\/strong><\/span> from H – K.<\/p>\n

TIP:<\/strong> Make sure to match the cross pattern markings – it is EASY to get muddled and pin the one of these pieces UPSIDE DOWN! \ud83d\ude41<\/p>\n

Sew the BACK PIECES<\/strong><\/span> together along the top from H – M.<\/p>\n

*Leave the FRONT PIECES<\/span> open between D and H.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Sew the OUTER FRONT LEGS<\/strong><\/span> to the FRONT PIECES<\/strong><\/span> matching the single dot pattern marking.<\/p>\n

Sew the TAIL PIECES<\/strong><\/span> together in pairs and trim the seams to 3mm(\u215b inch).<\/p>\n

Turn the TAIL<\/strong><\/span> right sides out and run the end of a chopstick along the seam so it is nice and smooth.<\/p>\n

Sew the elephant together at the sides in 3 steps – using the BODY SEWING DIAGRAM<\/strong> to guide you.<\/p>\n
