This beanbag toy is easy to make with a choice of a very simple felt cut-out crown for beginners or sewn version for more experienced sewists.<\/span><\/p>\n

(I wanted to explain this so you are not disappointed if you have found this page via a search engine and not from the link in my Prince Charming Frog Sewing Pattern<\/strong><\/span><\/span> Sewing Pattern)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Let’s get started!<\/span><\/p>\n

FROG:<\/strong><\/h2>\n
\n

STEP 1
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin the TOP PIECES<\/strong><\/span> right sides together and sew from A to B leaving a gap open as indicated by the pattern markings.<\/p>\n

STEP 2<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin the TOP PIECES<\/strong><\/span> to the TUMMY PIECE<\/strong>. <\/span><\/p>\n

TIP:<\/strong> Use LOTS of pins so the pieces don’t slip as you sew.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n

STEP 3
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew right around the frog without <\/strong>leaving an opening.<\/p>\n

STEP 4
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Use a sharp scissor to snip\/clip your seam allowance especially around the sharp curves. This is very important to do thoroughly or the fabric will not lie well when you turn the frog right side out.<\/p>\n

STEP 5
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Turn the frog right sides out. Use a wooden chopstick or similar turning tool to make sure the fingers (and toes) are all nicely turned. Put the frog aside while you sew the EYES<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n

STEP 6
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew running stitch around the outside of the EYE PIECES<\/strong><\/span> with a strong thread.<\/p>\n

STEP 7a
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Gather each EYE PIECE<\/strong><\/span> to form a cup shape.<\/p>\n

STEP 7b
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Fill this with toy stuffing and pull tightly to gather the EYE PIECE<\/strong><\/span> to form an eyeball.<\/p>\n

STEP 8a
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew each eyeball closed with a couple of strong stitches…<\/p>\n

STEP 8b
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

… then sew the two eyeballs together at the sides and put them aside.<\/p>\n

ASSEMBLY:<\/strong><\/h2>\n

STEP 9
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Stuff the head\/mouth area firmly with toy stuffing.<\/p>\n

STEP 10a
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Place the EYES<\/strong><\/span> to the frog’s head about 4cm back from the mouth seam. When you are happy with their position pin them in place.<\/p>\n

TIP:<\/strong> I like to use black berry pins for this because they look like the beads I use for the frogs eyes!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

STEP 10b
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Use the pins to experiment with the pupil positioning. This will dramatically change the expression of your frog\u2019s face.<\/p>\n

STEP 11
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Use a permanent marker pen to mark the pin position for each EYE<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n

STEP 12
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew a small black bead in position for the frog’s pupils.<\/p>\n

TIP:<\/strong> If the toy is for a young child use embroidery thread to sew a French knot instead of a bead. I have a post about toy safety<\/span> <\/strong><\/a>on my blog with more toy safety tips and guidelines.<\/p>\n

STEP 13
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the eyeballs back in place on the frog’s head using\u00a0 a ladder stitch.<\/p>\n

STEP 14
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Fill the hands, arms, feet and legs with plastic pellets. Do not overfill the arms and legs, they need to flop like a beanbag.<\/p>\n

STEP 15
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Fill the rest of the body with toy stuffing.<\/p>\n

STEP 16
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Use a ladder stitch to close the opening on the TOP PIECES<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n

CROWN:<\/strong><\/h2>\n
\n

STEP 17 – option 1.
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

For a simple crown – cut out the FELT CROWN PIECE<\/strong><\/span> from yellow felt. Glue the ends together and sew (or glue) the CROWN<\/strong><\/span> to the head of the frog, immediately behind the EYES<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n

STEP 18a – alternative option!
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

For a sewn crown, cut the SEWN CROWN PIECE<\/strong><\/span> from stretch \/ knit fabric. Place your material right sides together and trace the outline of the SEWN CROWN PIECE<\/strong><\/span> . Also mark where to cut the inside SEWN CROWN PIECE.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

***The wrong side of my yellow CROWN fabric is a very bright orange!***<\/strong><\/p>\n

STEP 18b
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew along the dotted sewing line – use the pattern markings to guide you with the SEWN CROWN<\/strong><\/span>!<\/p>\n

* In the photo below I have drawn a blue line to show you where to sew.<\/strong><\/p>\n

STEP 18c
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Cut out the CROWN PIECES<\/strong><\/span> along the solid line and just outside your line of stitching. Cut the extra fabric off each crown tip (this will make it easier to turn later).<\/p>\n

STEP 19
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Open out the two pieces, and fold a 5mm\/\u00bcinch hem on the long straight edge of one piece. This will be the outside<\/u> CROWN PIECE<\/strong><\/span>. Secure this with a tacking\/basting stitch. Cut the other CROWN PIECE<\/strong><\/span> along the solid cutting line. This will be the inside<\/u> CROWN PIECE<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n

STEP 20
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Fold your CROWN PIECES<\/strong><\/span> with the fabric right sides together, and sew the end seam closed.<\/p>\n

STEP 21
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Using a strong thread, gather the inside<\/u> CROWN PIECE<\/strong><\/span> along the straight edge and tie this securely.<\/p>\n

STEP 22
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Use something sharp like a chopstick\/knitting needle to push the spikes of the crown right sides out.<\/p>\n

STEP 23
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Fill each tip and the ‘space’ between the inside<\/u> and outside<\/u> CROWN PIECES<\/strong><\/span> with toy stuffing.<\/p>\n

STEP 24a
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Position the CROWN<\/strong><\/span> on the frog’s head just behind the EYES<\/strong><\/span> and sew the gathered edge of the inner<\/u> CROWN PIECE<\/strong><\/span> to the head. (You could also use fabric glue but personally I find it a bit messy!)<\/p>\n

STEP 24b
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Using a ladder stitch, sew the outside<\/u> CROWN PIECE<\/strong><\/span> to the head.<\/p>\n

Remove your tacking stitches when the CROWN<\/strong><\/span> is secure.<\/p>\n
