(I wanted to explain this so you are not disappointed if you have found this page via a search engine and not from the link in my Mitch the Monkey Toy Pattern<\/strong>)<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

STEP 1
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Choose some monkey fabric… a toy monkey does not have to be brown!<\/p>\n

STEP 2<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the EAR PIECES<\/strong><\/span> together in pairs (one cut from the Main fabric, one from the Contrast fabric) leaving the straight edge open for turning.<\/p>\n

STEP 3
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Trim the seam allowance to 3mm (1\/8inch) and turn the EARS<\/strong><\/span> right sides out.<\/p>\n

TIP:<\/strong> I use a wooden chopstick to help me turn the EARS<\/strong><\/span>. Run the end of the chopstick back and forth along the seam on the inside of the EARS<\/strong><\/span> so the seams are nice and smooth.<\/p>\n

EYE PIECES:<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

STEP 4a
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the EYE PIECES<\/strong><\/span> right sides together, leave the straight edge open for turning.<\/p>\n

Trim the seam allowance to 3mm (\u215b inch) and turn the EYE PIECES<\/strong><\/span> right sides out.<\/p>\n

STEP 5a

Fold the MUZZLE PIECE<\/strong><\/span> right sides together and sew the dart closed at A.<\/p>\n

STEP 5b<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin and tack (baste) the EYE PIECES<\/strong><\/span> to the MUZZLE PIECE<\/strong><\/span>, matching C, A and D, so they lay ‘flat against’ the MUZZLE PIECE<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n

STEP 5c<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the MUZZLE PIECE<\/strong><\/span> to the CHIN PIECE<\/strong><\/span> from E – H – F.<\/p>\n

TIP:<\/strong> Clip this seam really well so this seam turns nice and smoothly. I like to finger press this seam open.<\/p>\n

STEP 6
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the HEAD PIECES<\/strong><\/span> together at the top from A \u2013 B.<\/p>\n

STEP 7
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the HEAD PIECES<\/strong><\/span>, MUZZLE PIECE<\/strong><\/span> and CHIN PIECE<\/strong><\/span> together, matching points A, E\/F and G.<\/p>\n

* I added the red dotted line in the photo below to show you where the EYE PIECES<\/strong><\/span> are (behind the MUZZLE PIECE<\/strong><\/span>).<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 8
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin the EARS<\/strong><\/span> to the HEAD PIECES<\/strong><\/span> at the ear darts. Using the pattern markings to guide you, pin the EARS<\/strong><\/span> with the Contrast fabric of EAR PIECE<\/strong><\/span> touching the HEAD PIECES<\/strong><\/span>. Fold the HEAD PIECES<\/strong><\/span> right sides together at the ear darts and sew the darts closed with the EARS<\/strong><\/span> inside the darts.<\/p>\n

* I added the red dotted line in the photo below to show you where the EARS<\/strong><\/span> are (behind the HEAD PIECE<\/strong><\/span>).<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 9

Sew the HEAD PIECES<\/strong><\/span> together from B – Q.<\/p>\n

STEP 10
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Fold the HEAD PIECES<\/strong><\/span> right sides together and sew the dart closed, across the top of the head, at B.<\/p>\n

STEP 11

Sew the HEAD PIECES<\/strong><\/span> and CHIN PIECE<\/strong><\/span> closed at the front from L – G – U. (Leave the HEAD PIECES<\/strong><\/span> open, at the back, between Q and O).<\/p>\n

STEP 12

If you are using craft eyes, insert them now. Use sharp scissors to cut a hole for each eye. You will need to cut through both the EYE PIECES<\/strong><\/span> and the HEAD PIECES<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n

STEP 13
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Hand sew the EYE PIECES<\/strong><\/span> to the HEAD PIECES<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n

TIP:<\/strong> I use a ladder stitch so you don’t see my stitching but you can use a top-stitch about 3mm (\u215c inch) in from the edge of the EYE PIECES<\/strong><\/span> and a contrasting thread to add a fun detail to the EYES<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n

ARMS:<\/span><\/h1>\n

STEP 14a
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the HAND PIECES<\/strong><\/span> to the ARM PIECES<\/strong><\/span>, matching the dots.<\/p>\n

STEP 14b
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the ARMS & HANDS PIECES<\/strong><\/span> together in pairs.<\/p>\n

TIP: <\/strong>Clip the seams well, especially by the ‘thumb’.<\/p>\n

STEP 14c

Turn the ARM&HANDS<\/strong> right sides out. Stuff the HANDS<\/strong><\/span> and ARMS<\/strong><\/span> leaving the top 12mm(\u00bd inch) UNSTUFFED and pin the ARMS<\/strong><\/span> closed at the top.<\/p>\n

STEP 15a
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the LEG PIECES<\/strong><\/span> together down the front and back seams, leave a gap to stuff the legs as show on the pattern pieces.<\/p>\n

Open the LEG PIECES<\/strong><\/span> at M and sew them to the TOES PIECES<\/strong><\/span>, matching point M.<\/p>\n

STEP 15c

Sew the FOOT PAD PIECES<\/strong><\/span> to the LEGS &<\/strong> TOES PIECES<\/strong><\/span>, matching point N.<\/p>\n

TIP:<\/strong> Use lots of pins so the pieces don’t slip as you sew. ALSO it’s easier if you sew the seam with the FOOT PAD<\/strong><\/span> down.<\/p>\n

STEP 15d<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Turn the LEGS<\/strong><\/span> right sides out.<\/p>\n

** Do NOT stuff the LEGS<\/span> or they won’t fit inside the monkey’s body when you sew him together!<\/strong><\/p>\n

STEP 15e

Fold the top of the LEG PIECES<\/strong><\/span> (see the pattern markings) and pin the seams together at the middle of each leg.<\/p>\n

STEP 16a
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the TUMMY PIECE<\/strong><\/span>S together along the front seam from L – K. Pin the ARMS<\/strong><\/span> to the TUMMY PIECE<\/strong><\/span>S, using the pattern markings to guide you.<\/p>\n

STEP 16b
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin the LEGS to the TUMMY PIECE<\/strong><\/span>, using the pattern markings to guide you.<\/p>\n

TIP:<\/strong> Unfold the ARMS<\/strong><\/span> and LEGS<\/strong><\/span> now and check that they are pinned correctly – the thumbs of the hands should face down<\/u> (or it will look like your monkey is trying to hitch a ride!) and the ‘toes’ should point to the front. It would be a pain to unpick the monkey later on if you have sewn the arms or legs back to front!<\/p>\n

STEP 17a
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the TAIL PIECES<\/strong><\/span> together, leaving the gap to stuff it later.<\/p>\n

Clip the seams well and turn the tail right sides out. Pin the top of the TAIL<\/strong><\/span> closed.<\/p>\n

*Do NOT stuff the tail now!*<\/strong><\/p>\n

BACK PIECES:<\/span><\/h1>\n

STEP 18a
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin the top of the TAIL<\/strong><\/span> to one of the BACK PIECES<\/strong><\/span> using the pattern markings to guide you, matching point J. Sew the BACK PIECES<\/strong><\/span> together along the back seam from P – K, leaving them open at the top.<\/p>\n

STEP 18b
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Roll the TAIL<\/strong><\/span> into a little ball so you can pin the BACK PIECES<\/strong><\/span> to the TUMMY PIECE<\/strong><\/span> with the TAIL, ARMS and LEGS<\/strong><\/span> in between.<\/p>\n

STEP 19
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the BACK PIECES<\/strong><\/span> to the TUMMY PIECE<\/strong><\/span> from T – K – T on the other side.<\/p>\n

TIP:<\/strong> The LEGS<\/strong><\/span> are too big to be inside the BODY<\/strong><\/span>, they will be left sticking out the top at the ‘neck’ when you sew it together. Check that you have caught all the layers of the ARMS<\/strong><\/span> and LEGS<\/strong><\/span> in the seams now so you can unpick and resew them if you haven’t. You can also sew back and forth, across the seams at the tops of the ARMS<\/strong> LEGS<\/strong><\/span> and TAIL<\/strong><\/span>, with a zig-zag stitch to make them extra secure if the monkey is for a young child.<\/p>\n

NECK SEAM:<\/span><\/h1>\n

STEP 20
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the HEAD PIECES<\/strong><\/span> to the TUMMY & BACK PIECES<\/strong><\/span> at the neck seam from O – T – L – T – O on the other side.<\/p>\n

TIP:<\/strong> I find the easiest way to do this is to turn the HEAD<\/strong><\/span> right sides out and push it ‘inside’ the BODY<\/strong><\/span> so you can sew them together at the neck, with the fabric right sides together.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n

STEP 21
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pull the HEAD<\/strong><\/span> back out of the BODY<\/strong><\/span> and sew HEAD<\/strong><\/span> and BACK PIECES<\/strong><\/span> closed from Q – O – S, leaving the BACK PIECES<\/strong><\/span> open from S – P for turning and stuffing.<\/p>\n

ASSEMBLY:<\/span><\/h1>\n

STEP 22
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Turn your monkey right sides out. Stuff the LEGS<\/strong><\/span> and TAIL<\/strong><\/span> with toy stuffing. Stuff the MUZZLE<\/strong><\/span> and HEAD<\/strong><\/span> very well before stuffing the BODY<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n

TIP:<\/strong> The face should be stuffed nice and firm so it’s nice and round. This will also make it easier to embroider the nose and mouth.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n

STEP 23a
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Using the pattern markings to guide you, sew a long straight stitch for the mouth and an upside down \u2018V\u2019 for the nose, with black embroidery thread.<\/p>\n

Using the TOE SEWING DIAGRAM<\/span> as a guide, sew the toes with embroidery thread.<\/p>\n
