FIND SOME FABRIC<\/span>
\n<\/strong><\/h2>\n

First you’ll need to choose some crocodile fabric – a crocodile toy doesn’t have to be green!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Start sewing the HEAD:<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n
\n

STEP 1
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Fold the fabric (right sides together) and sew the darts in the SNOUT TOP PIECE<\/span><\/strong> as shown on the pattern markings.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 2<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the SNOUT TOP PIECE<\/span><\/strong> to the FACE PIECE<\/span><\/strong> from A – B.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 3
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the TEETH PIECE<\/span><\/strong> to the SNOUT TOP PIECE<\/span><\/strong>, from A – C – B.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 4

Pin the SNOUT BOTTOM PIECE<\/u><\/strong> to the TEETH PIECE<\/u><\/strong> from A \u2013 D \u2013 B. Pin the\u00a0SNOUT BASE PIECE<\/u><\/strong> to the FACE PIECE<\/u><\/strong> at the sides, from A \u2013 G and B \u2013 H. Sew from H around the front to G.<\/span><\/p>\n

* I have outlined the SNOUT BOTTOM PIECE<\/u> in the photo below to make it easier to see it!<\/strong><\/p>\n

TIP:<\/strong> I find it’s easiest to sew these pieces together with the SNOUT BOTTOM PIECE<\/u><\/strong> down.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 5
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the BACK HEAD PIECES<\/u><\/strong> together from E \u2013 F. Finger-press this seam open.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 6

Sew the BACK HEAD PIECES<\/u><\/strong> to the FACE PIECE<\/u><\/strong> matching points G\/H and E.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fold, pin and sew the darts in the TOP BACK LEG PIECE<\/u><\/strong> as shown on the pattern markings. *Repeat for the other TOP BACK LEG PIECE<\/u><\/strong> – 4 darts altogether!).<\/span><\/p>\n

Sew the dart in the TOP FRONT LEG PIECES<\/u><\/strong> as shown on the pattern markings.<\/span><\/p>\n

* The dashed red line in the photo below is the sewing line. The solid red line is the seam, seen from the right side of the fabric.

Sew the LOWER FRONT LEG PIECES<\/u><\/strong> and LOWER BACK LEG PIECE<\/strong>S<\/u> to the TUMMY PIEC<\/strong>E<\/u>, matching the stars of the pattern markings.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 13

Sew the SIDE PIECES<\/u><\/strong> together along the base of the tail from J – K.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 14
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the\u00a0 SPIKE PIECES<\/strong><\/u> together to form 2 spikes for the croc\u2019s back. Trim the seam allowance to 3mm (1\/8inch) so the seam will turn nicely.<\/span><\/p>\n

TIP:<\/strong> If I am using a woven fabric like quilting cotton, I like to iron the spikes when they are turned, to make them nice and flat.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n

STEP 15a
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin one of the SPIKES<\/u><\/strong> to one SIDE PIECE<\/u><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the BACK PIECE<\/u><\/strong> to this SIDE PIECE<\/u><\/strong> with the SPIKE<\/u><\/strong> in between.<\/span><\/p>\n

Pin the 2nd SPIKE<\/span><\/strong> to the other side of the BACK PIECE<\/u><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Pin the other SIDE PIECE<\/span><\/strong> to the\u00a0BACK PIECE<\/u><\/strong> with the 2nd SPIKE<\/span><\/u><\/strong> in between and sew them together.<\/span>
\n<\/u><\/p>\n

TIP:<\/strong> Turn the pieces over and check – they should look like this!<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 17

Cut the slit in the TUMMY PIECE<\/u><\/strong> to point S, as shown on the pattern markings.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 18
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin the TUMMY & LOWER LEGS<\/u><\/strong> to the SIDE PIECE and TOP LEGS<\/u><\/strong>. Sew the crocodile closed at the sides. Sew from Q \u2013 P on one side, around the front leg, from L \u2013 M, around the back leg and then around the back from N \u2013 J – O. Next sew around the other back leg, REMEMBERING to leave the croc open on the other side between L -M for stuffing. Sew around the other front leg and finally from P \u2013 Q on the other side.<\/span><\/p>\n

TIP:<\/strong> Take your time and use lots of pins. This will stop the pieces from slipping as you sew!<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n

NECK SEAM:<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

STEP 19
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the head to the body at the neck seam matching point F.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

TIP:<\/strong> I find the easiest way is to do this is to turn the head right sides out first, then push the head (top first) into the body so you can pin the pieces together at the neck seam, with the fabric right sides together.<\/span><\/p>\n

CRAFT EYES:<\/span><\/h2>\n

STEP 20
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

I am making felt eyes for my crocodile so I will sew them on later BUT it is better to insert CRAFT EYES<\/strong> now if you are using them.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 21
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Once the head is attached, sew the crocodile closed underneath \u2013 sew from R on the SNOUT BASE PIECE<\/u><\/strong> to S on the TUMMY PIECE<\/strong><\/u>.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 22
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Before you turn your Crocodile right sides out, cut the extra fabric off at the tip of each \u2018toe\u2019 and snip the seams between each of the toes so that they will turn more easily.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 23
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Turn the crocodile right sides out and stuff the head well, especially the snout, cheeks and eye area. Don\u2019t fill the toes with too much stuffing, they must still be flat. Fill the legs well, then finish stuffing the tail and rest of the body.<\/span><\/p>\n

TIP:<\/strong> I like to use a child’s paintbrush to help me stuff. It helps to get the stuffing in the head and snout nice and firm.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n

STEP 24<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Use a ladder stitch to close the opening on the crocodile\u2019s tummy.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"How<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

TEETH:<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n
\n

STEP 25
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Use a disappearing OR erasable pen or pencil to draw teeth on the TEETH PIECE<\/span>. (They don\u2019t have to be even, a few uneven teeth will still look ok). Use thick black embroidery thread to sew over the lines to make the teeth.<\/span><\/p>\n

TIP:<\/strong> I like to sew one side of each ‘tooth’ going one way, then turn around and sew the other side of each ‘tooth’ going one way!<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n

FELT EYES:<\/span><\/h2>\n

STEP 26
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Cut the EYE PIECES<\/span><\/strong> out of felt using the templates and pin them in place on your crocodile. Use non-toxic glue to stick the eyes on or sew them in place with embroidery thread. You can sew a French knot in the centre of the eye to create the pupil.<\/span><\/p>\n

TIP:<\/strong> I like to trace my felt pieces with a fabric marker. If you don\u2019t have one ~ go to my blog for other methods for cutting out felt pieces<\/a><\/span><\/strong> accurately.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
