My Joey Junior Kangaroo sewing pattern<\/strong> is my NEWEST Australian soft toy pattern and I think he’s going to popular with children of all ages but especially as a baby toy <\/strong>as he has the cutest little baby kangaroo face!<\/strong> I’ve put together a photo tutorial so you can see how to sew your own stuffed toy kangaroo<\/strong> ~> scroll down for step-by-step photos!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

I have made this photo tutorial so people who have purchased the pattern can SEE how to sew this stuffed toy kangaroo! (I wanted to explain this so you are not disappointed if you have found this page via a search engine and not from the link in my Joey Junior Kangaroo toy sewing pattern<\/strong>!)<\/span>

First choose some fabric to sew a kangaroo!<\/span>
\n<\/em><\/p>\n

Joey Junior does not need to be BROWN<\/strong> – he looks great in ALL sorts of colours! I had this adorable Australian animals fabric I found a while ago. I think ‘dotty’ Aboriginal fabric would be great for a kangaroo too.<\/p>\n

Let’s start with the TUMMY:<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n
\n

STEP 1
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the dart in the TUMMY PIECE<\/strong><\/span>. (The fabric looks faded in this photo because the piece is folded with the fabric right sides together to sew the dart!)<\/p>\n

STEP 2<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the BASE PIECE<\/strong><\/span> to the TUMMY PIECES<\/strong><\/span>, from D \u2013 E \u2013 D.<\/p>\n

LEGS:<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n
\n

STEP 3<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the INSIDE LEG PIECES<\/strong><\/span> to the TUMMY PIECES<\/strong><\/span> from C to D, matching the star pattern marking.<\/p>\n

STEP 4a<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin one of the OUTSIDE LEG PIECES<\/strong><\/span> to one of the INSIDE LEG PIECES<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n

STEP 4b<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the OUTSIDE LEG PIECES<\/strong><\/span> to the INSIDE LEG PIECES<\/strong><\/span>. Repeat on the other side.<\/p>\n

ARMS:<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

STEP 5<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the ARM PIECES<\/strong><\/span> together in pairs. Clip the curved seam well then turn the ARMS<\/strong><\/span> right sides out.<\/p>\n

STEP 6<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Stuff the \u2018hands\u2019 with some toy stuffing, leave the back 25mm\/1inch un-stuffed so the ARMS<\/strong><\/span> will lie flat.<\/p>\n

STEP 7<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin the ARMS<\/strong><\/span> to the TUMMY PIECE<\/strong><\/span> using the pattern markings to guide you with their position.<\/p>\n

BODY:<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

STEP 8<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the BODY PIECES<\/strong><\/span> together from S \u2013 H.<\/p>\n

\n

STEP 9<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin and sew the BODY PIECES<\/strong><\/span> to the TUMMY and LEG PIECES<\/strong><\/span> from G \u2013 J, with the ARMS<\/strong><\/span> sandwiched in between.<\/p>\n

TIP:<\/strong> Use LOTS of pins to stop the pieces from slipping as you sew. Sew with the TUMMY PIECES<\/strong><\/span> up so you can smooth out any wrinkles\/puckers as you sew.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

STEP 10a<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin the INSIDE LEG<\/span> <\/strong>and OUTSIDE LEG PIECE<\/span><\/strong> together at the back of one LEG<\/strong><\/span> from K \u2013 D and continue pinning the BASE PIECE<\/strong><\/span> to the BODY PIECE<\/strong><\/span> on the same side from D \u2013 L.<\/p>\n

STEP 10b<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew this side closed from K – D – to the dot pattern marking at L. (*Do not sew all the way to the edge of the BASE PIECE<\/strong><\/span> at L, stop at the dot pattern marking.*)<\/p>\n

STEP 11a<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Fold BASE PIECE<\/strong><\/span> at L , as shown on the pattern markings, before you pin the other side.<\/p>\n

STEP 11b<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin the LEG PIECES<\/strong><\/span> on the other side from K \u2013 D, pin the BASE PIECE<\/strong><\/span> to the BODY PIECE<\/strong><\/span> from D \u2013 L and, this time, continue to pin the BODY PIECES<\/strong><\/span> closed up to H. Sew this side closed from K – D – L – H.<\/p>\n

STEP 12<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin and sew the FOOT PAD PIECES<\/strong><\/span> to the LEG PIECES<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n

STEP 13<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the HEAD PIECES<\/strong><\/span> together from A \u2013 B.<\/p>\n

STEP 14<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the GUSSET PIECE<\/strong><\/span> to the HEAD PIECES<\/span><\/strong> from M \u2013 A \u2013 M.<\/p>\n

TIP:<\/strong> Sew with the GUSSET PIECE<\/strong><\/span> down. Use LOTS of pins especially at the front of the GUSSET PIECE<\/strong><\/span>, this will help prevent wrinkles. Don\u2019t worry if you get some wrinkles here \u2013 they will get covered with the felt NOSE PIECE<\/strong><\/span> later!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

STEP 15<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

If you are using CRAFT EYES<\/strong><\/span> insert them now.<\/p>\n

STEP 16a<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the EAR PIECES<\/strong><\/span> together, one in main fabric and one in contrasting fabric, turn them right side out.<\/p>\n

STEP 16b<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Fold the sides of the EAR PIECES<\/strong><\/span> in to the centre at the open edge. Pin or hand sew each ear in this position so they won\u2019t slip when you sew them in place.\"fold<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

STEP 17<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin the EARS<\/strong><\/span> to the FACE PIECES<\/strong><\/span>, with the contrast fabric touching the FACE PIECES<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n

* Use the dot pattern markings to guide you.<\/p>\n

STEP 18<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the BACK HEAD PIECES<\/strong><\/span> together from T \u2013 P.<\/p>\n

** Do NOT sew the pieces from P and O so it\u2019s easy to sew the HEAD to the BODY! **<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

STEP 19
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the HEAD & GUSSET PIECE<\/strong><\/span> to the BACK HEAD PIECES<\/strong><\/span>, matching point T.<\/p>\n

STEP 20a<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Turn the HEAD<\/strong><\/span> right sides out and place it inside the BODY<\/strong><\/span> so you can pin the pieces right sides together at the neck seam.<\/p>\n

STEP 20b<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin and sew the neck seam. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

STEP 21<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Turn the HEAD<\/strong><\/span> wrong sides out again and sew the kangaroo at the back from P \u2013 Q \u2013 R on the BODY PIECES<\/strong><\/span>, leaving it open between R and S for turning.<\/p>\n

STEP 22a<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Turn the kangaroo right sides out. Stuff the head really firmly with toy stuffing, especially the nose area.<\/p>\n

STEP 22b<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Stuff the tail and feet firmly then the knees and neck areas, and finally the rest of the body.<\/p>\n

TIP:<\/strong> A children’s paint brush is a fantastic stuffing tool – especially for pushing small bits of toy stuffing into skinny places like the tail tip!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\n

STEP 23<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the stuffing gap closed on the BODY PIECES<\/strong><\/span>. Use a double strand of machine thread and make your stitches as small as you can to make it nice and neat!<\/p>\n

STEP 24
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Cut out the NOSE PIECE<\/strong><\/span> from felt, using the template. Pin (or use a non-toxic glue to stick) the nose in position, and then sew it in place with embroidery thread.<\/p>\n

TIP:<\/strong> If you are sewing the kangaroo toy for a baby or child under the age of 3 years old, embroider 2 black circles for the eyes or use felt circles for the eyes. Attach them the same way as you did the nose.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n
