Wodger is a simple pattern to sew and looks great in all sorts of fabrics!<\/span><\/p>\n

I have made this photo tutorial so people who have purchased the Wodger Wombat Sewing Pattern<\/strong> can SEE how to sew this stuffed animal toy wombat! (I wanted to explain this so you are not disappointed if you have found this page via a search engine and not from the link in my wombat sewing pattern PDF!)<\/span>

Let’s start with the head! <\/strong><\/h2>\n
\n

STEP 1
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the HEAD PIECES<\/span> together from F \u2013 E.<\/p>\n

\n

STEP 2a
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin the EARS<\/span> together in pairs (fabric right sides together, of course!) Sew them together, leaving the base open for turning.<\/p>\n

STEP 2b<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Trim the seam allowance extra close at the tip of the EARS<\/span> as shown in the pattern markings. (Be careful you don’t cut into the stitching.) Turn the EARS<\/span> right sides out.<\/p>\n

\"6b<\/p>\n

TIP: <\/strong>Finger press the sides of the EARS<\/span> and pin them to keep them flat! I use these pins when I pin the EARS in place.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n

STEP 3a
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin the EARS<\/span> to the HEAD PIECES<\/span> at the head dart.\u00a0 Line up the open edges of the EAR PIECES with the head dart, matching the 3 dots of the pattern markings. (Use this EAR DIAGRAM 1<\/strong> to guide you.)<\/p>\n

STEP 3b<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the EAR PIECES<\/span> in this position then fold the HEAD PIECES<\/span> at the head darts, with the fabric right sides together.<\/p>\n

* I have drawn a black dashed line so you can see where to fold the HEAD in this photograph.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"Sew<\/p>\n

STEP 3c<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin and sew the head darts with part of the ears ‘caught’ in the darts. (Use the EAR DIAGRAM 2<\/strong> to guide you.)<\/p>\n

Open the HEAD PIECES<\/span> out again. The pieces should look like this now.<\/p>\n

STEP 3d<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Fold the EARS<\/span> so you can pin the open edge of the EARS<\/span> to the HEAD PIECES<\/span>, matching the 2 dots of the pattern markings. (Use\u00a0EAR DIAGRAM 3<\/strong> to guide you.)<\/p>\n

\"Wombat<\/p>\n

The EARS<\/span> should looks like this now. You can leave them pinned like this or baste(tack) them in position if you prefer.<\/p>\n

STEP 4
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Fold and sew the other head darts (2 on each side).<\/p>\n

* I have drawn 2 black dotted lines so you can see where to fold the HEAD for the darts.<\/strong><\/p>\n

STEP 5
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the SNOUT PIECE<\/span> to the HEAD PIECES<\/span> from D \u2013 E \u2013 D.<\/p>\n

STEP 6<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin and sew the NECK PIECES<\/span> together from B \u2013 F.<\/p>\n

\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the NECK PIECES<\/span> to the HEAD PIECES<\/span> matching F and C.<\/p>\n

STEP 8
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

If you are using safety\/craft eyes insert these now.<\/p>\n

Body and Tummy:<\/h1>\n

STEP 9<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin and sew the BODY PIECE<\/span>S together along the back, from A \u2013 B.<\/p>\n

STEP 10
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the TUMMY PIECES<\/span> together from A \u2013 H, leaving a gap for stuffing.<\/p>\n

Legs:<\/h1>\n
\n

STEP 11
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

TIP: <\/strong> Check that the toes point to the front! Unpicking the legs is not fun!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Pin and sew the LEG PIECES<\/span> to the TUMMY PIECES<\/span>, matching the dots of the pattern markings.<\/p>\n

* I have outlined all the LEG PIECES in black so you can see them a bit better in the photo.<\/strong><\/p>\n

STEP 12<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin the NECK PIECES<\/span> to the BODY PIECES<\/span> matching B and K. I find the best way to do this is to turn the head right sides out and put it ”inside” the wombat’s body!<\/p>\n

Now the pieces are pinned, sew the NECK to the BODY PIECES.<\/p>\n

STEP 13
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pull the head back out of the body so it is inside out again. Pin and sew the HEAD<\/span> closed along the NOSE, HEAD and NECK PIECES from G \u2013 D \u2013 C \u2013 H.<\/p>\n

STEP 14
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Fold and sew the darts in the BODY PIECES<\/span>. (1 on each side.)<\/p>\n

STEP 15
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the LEG-TUMMY PIECES<\/span> to the BODY-NECK PIECES<\/span> matching A and H.<\/p>\n

* I have outlined all the LEG PIECES in black again, so you can see them a bit better.<\/strong><\/p>\n

STEP 16
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Cut 4<\/strong> felt\u00a0 TOE PIECES<\/span>. Pin the felt TOES<\/span> to the right sides of the FOOT PAD PIECES.<\/span> Pin and sew the FOOT PAD PIECES<\/span> to the LEG and BODY PIECES<\/span> with the felt TOES<\/span> sandwiched in between.

STEP 17
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Turn the Wombat right sides out through the stuffing gap left on the TUMMY PIECES<\/span>. Fill the snout and head areas very firmly with toy stuffing. Stuff the legs then the \u201cbottom\u201d area before filling the rest of the body with toy stuffing. Wodger needs a lot more stuffing than you expect as he is nice and chubby. Stuff until he feels nice and firm and there are no wrinkles on his snout and back.<\/p>\n

\"Wombat<\/p>\n

TIP:<\/strong> I use a long, round, child\u2019s paint brush to push small bits of toy stuffing into the legs. It helps me get the toy stuffing right down into them and makes it easier to stuff them firmly.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\n<\/blockquote>\n

\n

STEP 18
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Cut out and pin the felt NOSE PIECE<\/span> on the SNOUT<\/span> about 1cm\/\u00bdinch from the top. Stitch this in place with a matching embroidery thread and a blanket stitch. If you are embroidering the eyes do them now.<\/p>\n

TIP: <\/strong>I like to trace my felt pieces with a fabric marker ~ if you don\u2019t have one ~ go to my blog for other methods of cutting out felt. 5 easy techniques for neat accurate pieces!

STEP 19<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the stuffing opening on the Wombat’s TUMMY PIECES<\/span> closed using a ladder stitch.<\/p>\n
