I have made this photo tutorial so people who have purchased the pattern can SEE how to sew a soft toy tiger. (I wanted to explain this so you are not disappointed if you have found this page via a search engine and not from the link in my Tiger sewing pattern!)<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

First choose some fabric:<\/span><\/p>\n

You can sew this Tiger pattern from MOST fabrics – you don’t have to have a Tiger print fabric OR stripes. A Tiger will look AWESOME in florals, chevrons, novelty prints and even PLAIN ORANGE! \ud83e\udde1<\/span><\/p>\n

A note about STRIPES!<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

 <\/p>\n

Stripes don\u2019t need to match up! <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

It would take a LOT of time (and extra fabric) to line up the stripes because there are so many seams on this toy. I specifically IGNORED the stripes when I cut out my Tiger – you can see very clearly that the stripes do NOT match up at the seams – but she STILL looks cute!<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

TIP:<\/strong><\/span> If mismatched stripes really bother you, I recommend that you use a plain orange fabric or a busy print (like a floral) instead of stripes!<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

A note about FUR fabrics!<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Fur fabrics can be thick which makes the seams bulky and difficult to sew. You can avoid this problem by using the fur only for the RUFF PIECES<\/strong><\/span> that face the front and using a plain, thinner fabric for the RUFF PIECES<\/strong><\/span> that face backwards. <\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Tester’s Tip<\/span>:\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Don’t use THICK<\/span><\/p>\n

or VERY FLUFFY fabric
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

for the Tiger’s SNOUT<\/span>!!! \"\ud83d\ude31\"<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The tester\u2019s found that using very THICK fluffy fabric for the SNOUT<\/span> and CHIN PIECE<\/span>\u00a0 made the Tiger \u2018lose it\u2019s smile\u2019 – or look like Santa! <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

If you want to use Cuddle\u00ae or fake fur for your tiger: Stick with using the standard C3 Cuddle\u00ae\u00a0 for the SNOUT<\/strong><\/span> and CHIN PIECES<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0 and the fluffier, thicker Luxe Cuddle\u00ae and Cuddle longer pile furs, ONLY for the tiger’s SIDE HEAD<\/strong><\/span> and RUFF(SIDE BURNS)<\/strong><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

FACE:<\/span><\/h2>\n

STEP 1

Sew the FACE PIECES<\/strong><\/span> to the SNOUT PIECES<\/strong><\/span> from A – B. (Remember to clip all seams, where they are very curved. This is especially important if you are using woven\/non-stretchy fabrics like quilting cottons.)<\/span><\/p>\n

Sew the SIDE HEAD PIECES<\/strong><\/span> to the FACE PIECES<\/strong><\/span> from E – F.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sew the SNOUT PIECES<\/strong><\/span> together at the front, from C – D.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sew the FOREHEAD<\/strong><\/span> and NOSE PIECE<\/strong><\/span> together from A – A. <\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 5a

Pin the FOREHEAD & NOSE PIECE<\/strong><\/span> to the SIDE HEAD, FACE & SNOUT PIECES<\/strong><\/span>.

TIP:<\/strong><\/span> This seam is right in the middle of the Tiger\u2019s face and you want it to be even. Take your time and use lots of pins so the pieces don’t slip as you sew.<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

STEP 5b
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the FOREHEAD & NOSE PIECE<\/strong><\/span> to the SIDE HEAD, FACE & SNOUT PIECES<\/strong><\/span> from G – C – G. (Sew this seam with the FOREHEAD & NOSE PIECE<\/strong><\/span> facing down<\/span>. That way you can lift the presser foot and finger-press out any folds in the fabric as you sew, to avoid wrinkles from forming.<\/span><\/p>\n

TIP: <\/strong>If you are a beginner, it can be easier to pin and sew from C – G one side first, then pin and sew from C – G on the other side.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n

CHIN:<\/span><\/h2>\n

Pin the CHIN PIECE<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0to the FACE & SNOUT PIECES<\/strong><\/span> from H – D – H. Again, take your time and use lots of pins, sew this seam with the CHIN PIECE<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0facing down.

TIP:<\/strong> Please don\u2019t worry if your Tiger\u2019s snout has some wrinkles – they are hard to avoid!<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Sew the EAR PIECES<\/strong><\/span> together in pairs (1 Contrast and 1 Main fabric piece) leaving the straight edge open for turning.

Clip the seams, being careful not to snip through the stitching, and turn the EAR PIECES<\/strong><\/span> right sides out.

TIP: <\/strong><\/span>I like to use a wooden chopstick to turn the EARS<\/strong><\/span>. Run the end of the chopstick back and forth along the stitching inside until the seam is nice and smooth.<\/span><\/p>\n

Pin the RUFF PIECES<\/strong><\/span> closed along the inside edge and pin them to the SIDE HEAD PIECES<\/strong><\/span>, just touching the bottom edge of the EARS<\/strong><\/span>. Sew the RUFF PIECES<\/strong><\/span> in place with a 3mm (\u215b inch) seam allowance.<\/span><\/p>\n

TIP: <\/strong><\/span>TIP: Look carefully at the RUFF PATTERN PIECE<\/strong><\/span> when you pin the RUFF PIECES<\/strong><\/span> in place to make sure you don’t pin them UPSIDE DOWN<\/strong><\/span>! (I added a funny face to remind you!)\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Tiger’s legs are quite complicated and they go together in a rather unusual way. This pattern also has lots of <\/strong><\/span>similar BUT slightly different LEG and ARM PIECES<\/strong>, which means there are LOTS of opportunities for muddling\/mismatching the pieces so <\/strong><\/span>~><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I know I always say to do this BUT this time, with this pattern – I think it’s REALLY IMPORTANT<\/span> that you do it!!!!! It’s <\/span>the EASIEST<\/strong><\/span> way to guarantee you’ll get it right first time, and won’t end up UNPICKING pieces…. (like I did a few times when designing Taylor Tiger!)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

How to transfer pattern markings:<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

There are LOTS of options for writing the pattern markings on the fabric pieces – I use pencil, ball point pen, permanent markers and erasable fabric pens.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

There are 2 types of erasable fabric pens:<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

AIR ERASABLE<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0(disappears after a little while) and WATER ERASABLE<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0(you need to apply water to make this disappear).<\/span>
\nAIR ERASABLE<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0fabric markers <\/strong>are used when you don’t want your markings to be visible forever. This is great for drawing on the facial features before you embroider them BUT not when you want to see the markings LATER while you’re sewing the toy – so use a WATER ERASABLE<\/strong><\/span> fabric pen <\/span>for these pattern markings! (You don’t need to remove them as you won’t see them from the right side of the fabric!)<\/span>

Sew one LEG\u00a0 1 PIECE<\/strong><\/span> and a LEG 2 PIECE<\/strong><\/span> together along the top seam.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 20b
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Clip the seam allowance of the top seams well as it is very curved. Look carefully at the LEG PIECE<\/strong>S<\/strong><\/span> – you can see the LEG 1 PIECE<\/strong><\/span> is STRAIGHT but the LEG 2 PIECE<\/strong><\/span> is CURVED at the back. Match them up with the STRAIGHT and CURVED edges of the TUMMY PIECE<\/strong><\/span> and matching the cross pattern markings, then pin them together.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

TIP:<\/strong> If you sew your Tiger’s feet <\/span><\/span>on the wrong way round they will point inwards instead of outwards!\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

So PLEASE double-check<\/strong> that you have matched the cross pattern markings and the CURVED and STRAIGHT edges correctly then sew the LEG PIECES<\/strong><\/span> to the TUMMY PIECE<\/strong>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 20c

Clip the curved seams very well then flip\/fold the LEG PIECES<\/strong><\/span> towards the back, then fold the LEG 2 PIECE<\/strong><\/span> to the side. Pin the bottom seams of the LEG 1 PIECE<\/strong><\/span> and LEG 2 PIECE<\/strong><\/span> together and….

Fold the LEG 1 & LEG 2 PIECES<\/strong><\/span> at the side folds, as shown in the pattern markings. Pin the top and bottom seams together at the centre, line up the raw edges of the fabric along the side darts and sew them closed.

Turn the LEG<\/strong><\/span> right sides out. (Push the front of the LEG PIECES<\/strong><\/span> back into the LEG<\/strong><\/span> and out through the open end of the LEG<\/strong><\/span> at the back).\u00a0<\/span>Gently pat the LEG PIECES<\/strong><\/span> so they lie flat at the open edge and pin the LEG PIECES<\/strong><\/span> to the TUMMY PIECE<\/strong><\/span> at the sides.<\/p>\n

PLEASE NOTE:<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n

The folded sides of the LEG PIECES<\/strong><\/span> must overlap the fabric of the TUMMY PIECE<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0so you can pin through all 3 layers (both layers of the LEG PIECES<\/strong><\/span> and the TUMMY PIECE<\/strong><\/span>).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

(This is a hard seam to pin – start by pinning points P together on each side, next pin the pieces together at the centre at O, then add LOTS of pins in between.)<\/span><\/p>\n

TIP:<\/strong> Please don\u2019t worry, it may feel strange that the LEGS<\/strong><\/span> have been left open at the top but doing the legs like this gives the tiger its \u2018crouching\u2019 pose.
