(I wanted to explain this so you are not disappointed if you have found this page via a search engine and not from the link in my Sugar Plum Fairy Doll Sewing Pattern)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Let’s get sewing!<\/span><\/p>\n

BODY:
\n<\/span><\/h2>\n
\n

STEP 1
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the Christmas fabric to the calico (muslin) fabric for the FRONT and BACK PIECES<\/strong><\/span>. Position the FRONT and<\/u> BACK PIECES<\/u><\/strong> on the ‘right side<\/span>‘ of the fabric so that the pattern markings for the seam line are lined up with the seam between the 2 fabrics, then trace and cut out the pieces.<\/p>\n

TIP:<\/strong> I like to press the seam allowance towards the Christmas fabric side so that you won’t see the pattern through the calico (muslin) fabric.<\/p>\n

STEP 2
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Trace the pattern markings for the face onto the right side<\/span> of the FRONT PIECE<\/u><\/strong> with a pencil or fabric pen.<\/p>\n

STEP 3
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the BACK PIECES<\/strong><\/span> from F to the star on the main fabric. (Do not sew the Christmas fabric together yet!)<\/p>\n

HAIR:<\/strong><\/h2>\n

STEP 4
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Cut out the HAIR PIECES<\/u><\/strong> from wool felt and sew these to the FRONT<\/u><\/strong> and BACK PIECES<\/u><\/strong> as shown in the pattern markings. (Try and match your thread to the hair colour!) Cut out 2 PIGTAIL PIECES<\/u><\/strong> and pin these in place using the pattern markings to guide you.<\/p>\n

STEP 5
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the BACK and FRONT PIECE<\/u><\/strong> together with the pigtails in between, sew from E \u2013 F- G, (sew ONLY where the felt is).<\/p>\n

TIP:<\/strong> If you changed your thread colour – change back to white thread now.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n

ARMS:<\/strong><\/h2>\n
\n

STEP 6
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the ARM PIECES<\/u><\/strong> in pairs and turn right sides out. I use a wooden chopstick to make sure the seams are turned out nicely. Stuff the hand area very firmly then stuff the rest of the arms, leaving the top 1\u00bd cm (\u00bd inch) empty.<\/p>\n

STEP 7a
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin the ARMS<\/strong><\/span> to the FRONT PIECE<\/strong><\/span> with the thumbs UP, using the pattern markings as a guide.<\/p>\n

STEP 7b<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the ARMS<\/strong><\/span> to the FRONT PIECE<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n

STEP 8
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the BACK PIECES<\/strong> to the FRONT PIECE<\/strong> at the sides, with the ARMS<\/strong><\/span> in between. Sew from G \u2013 H then E \u2013 H.<\/p>\n

STEP 9
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the SHOE PIECES<\/strong><\/span> to the LEG PIECES<\/strong><\/span> in pairs from A \u2013 B, matching the single dot pattern markings. Sew the SHOE& LEG PIECES<\/u><\/strong> together in pairs, sew from C around the SHOE PIECE<\/u><\/strong> to D.<\/p>\n

STEP 10
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Stuff the SHOE& LEG PIECES<\/u><\/strong> and pin them at the top so that the seams are together in the middle.<\/p>\n

STEP 11
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin the LEGS<\/strong><\/span> to the FRONT PIECE<\/u><\/strong> using the pattern markings as a guide. The front seam of the LEGS<\/strong><\/span> at C must be touching the FRONT PIECE<\/u><\/strong> at C. Sew them in place making sure you catch all the layers in the seam.<\/p>\n

STEP 12
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Keep the ARMS<\/strong><\/span> and LEGS<\/strong><\/span> pushed up between the BACK PIECES<\/u><\/strong>, then sew BACK PIECES<\/u><\/strong> together at the centre. Sew from J \u2013 K, so that the ARMS<\/strong><\/span> and LEGS<\/strong><\/span> stick upwards out the stuffing gap.<\/p>\n

STEP 13
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin the FRONT and BACK PIECES<\/u><\/strong> at the bottom, matching K to L and sew them closed from H \u2013 H.<\/p>\n

TURN and STUFF:<\/strong><\/h2>\n

STEP 14
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Turn the fairy inside out through the gap left for stuffing.<\/p>\n

TIP:<\/strong> It is easy to turn the ARMS<\/strong><\/span> and LEGS<\/strong><\/span> but the head is a bit more difficult as the felt HAIR PIECES<\/strong><\/span> make the head quite firm. Push the top of the head out through the neck slowly and gently!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\n

STEP 15
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Fill the head and neck very firmly with toy stuffing, then fill the rest of the body very firmly too.<\/p>\n

STEP 16
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Use a ladder stitch to close the opening on the fairy\u2019s BACK<\/strong><\/span>. Sew 2 buttons onto the BACK<\/strong><\/span>, (or some Velcro\/velcro spots) in place according the pattern markings.<\/p>\n

STEP 17
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Use the pattern markings as a guide to embroider the eyes and eyebrows in black.<\/p>\n

STEP 18
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Embroider the mouth, nose and freckles in pale pink.<\/p>\n

BALLET SHOES:<\/strong><\/h2>\n

STEP 19a
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Fold a 75cm(30inch) piece of 3mm(\u215b inch) ribbon in half to find the center, then sew the center to the back of the ballet shoe at the top.<\/p>\n

STEP 19b<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Wrap the ribbons around the legs a couple of times and tie them at the front in a little bow, trim off the extra ribbon.<\/p>\n

TIP:<\/strong> Secure the knot with some hand stitching so it won\u2019t come undone and the ribbon won\u2019t slide down the leg!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n

TUTU:<\/strong><\/h2>\n

STEP 20a
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Cut a piece of soft netting 6x58inches wide \/15x145cm wide and fold it in half lengthwise so your skirt will become a 2 layered skirt 3inches \/7\u00bdm layers deep.<\/p>\n

STEP 20b
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew a line of stitching 1cm (\u00bdinch) from the folded edge to make a casing, and then thread some 5mm (\u00bcinch) elastic through the casing you have made.<\/p>\n

STEP 20c
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Gather the netting until it will fit nicely around the fairy\u2019s body like a tutu. Pin the elastic so you can remove the tutu from the fairy then sew the elastic securely and cut off the extra length.<\/p>\n

STEP 20d<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Push the edges of the netting over the sewn elastic to make it look nice.<\/p>\n

WINGS:<\/strong><\/h2>\n

STEP 21
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Cut 2 rectangles of wing fabric a bit larger than the WING PIECE<\/u>. Cut out a WING PIECE<\/u> from iron-on batting and iron it to the wrong side of the fabric<\/span> of one of the rectangle pieces. Place the 2 rectangles of fabric right sides together and sew around the outside of the batting, leaving the gap open for turning.<\/p>\n

\"Wings\"<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

STEP 22
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Cut the WINGS out 5mm(1\/4inch) outside the sewing line then turn them right sides out through the turning gap. Push the seam allowance inside at the turning gap and hand sew this closed.<\/p>\n

STEP 23a
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin the 3 layers of the wings to keep them nice and flat. Using the pattern markings as a guide, draw the top-stitch lines onto the WING. Sew the top stitch lines using a slightly longer-than-normal stitch length. (You can sew this by hand.)<\/p>\n

STEP 23b<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew on 2 pieces of Velcro using the pattern markings to guide you. (I like to use stick on Velcro spots \u2013 so easy!)<\/p>\n
