I have made this photo tutorial so people who have purchased my Petunia PIG Sewing Pattern<\/strong> can SEE how to sew my pig soft toy! (I wanted to explain this so you are not disappointed if you have found this page via a search engine and not from the link in my <\/span><\/span>Petunia PIG sewing pattern<\/strong>!)<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Pig toys don’t need to be pink…<\/h1>\n

OK, we’ll start with Piggy’s TAIL:<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 1
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Fold the TAIL PIECE<\/strong><\/span> in half and sew along the side seam as shown on the pattern piece. Trim the seam allowance at the tip of the TAIL PIECE<\/strong><\/span> and turn the tail right sides out.<\/p>\n

STEP 2
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin the TAIL PIECE<\/strong><\/span> in position on the BODY PIECES<\/strong><\/span> as shown on the pattern.<\/p>\n

BODY:<\/span><\/h2>\n

STEP 3
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin and sew the BODY PIECES<\/strong><\/span> together from A \u2013 B, with the TAIL<\/strong><\/span> in between, leaving a gap for you to push the wire\/chenille stick into the tail after you have sewn the BODY PIECES<\/strong><\/span> together.<\/p>\n

TIP:<\/strong> Here is a close up photo for you to see the gap that must be left for you to insert the wire for the pig’s tail.<\/p>\n

STEP 4a
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Fold a piece of wire\/chenille stick in half.<\/p>\n

STEP 4b<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Push the folded end of the chenille stick into the tail. Trim the ends of the wire so the ends stick out of the tail about 12mm(half an inch).<\/p>\n

* I have ‘rolled back’ the top BODY PIECE<\/strong><\/span> so you can see
\nthe TAIL PIECE<\/strong><\/span> in between.<\/p>\n

\"Do<\/p>\n

TIP:<\/strong> Do NOT to sew over the wire\/chenille stick<\/span> – it can damage your needle and your machine. You can even damage your eyes if your needle snaps! I like to fold the ends of the wire to each side and ‘hide’ them in seam.<\/p>\n

HEAD:<\/span><\/h2>\n

STEP 5a
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the CENTRE HEAD PIECE<\/strong><\/span> to one SIDE HEAD PIECE<\/strong><\/span>, from C – D, matching the 3 dots of the pattern markings.<\/p>\n

STEP 5b
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the CENTRE HEAD PIECE<\/strong><\/span> to the other SIDE HEAD PIECE<\/strong><\/span>, from C – D.<\/p>\n

STEP 6
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

If you are using craft eyes, insert them now.<\/p>\n

STEP 7
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the SIDE HEAD PIECES<\/strong><\/span> together from E \u2013 F.<\/p>\n

* I have shown this with a purple arrow in the photo below.<\/strong><\/p>\n

TIP: <\/strong>This creates a ’round gap’ for the SNOUT PIECE<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n

*It looks like a triangle shape in the photo below!<\/strong><\/p>\n

SNOUT:<\/span><\/h2>\n
\n

STEP 8
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin the SNOUT PIECE<\/strong><\/span> in place, matching F and G. Sew the SNOUT PIECE<\/strong><\/span> to the HEAD PIECES<\/strong><\/span> by hand. (Use a back stitch and tight stitching.)<\/p>\n

\"8b\"<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\n

Can I sew the SNOUT in place with a sewing machine?<\/h2>\n

It is much harder to sew the SNOUT PIECE<\/strong><\/span> in place by machine but it CAN be done! Add extra pins between the ones you have already pinned. This is so that the SNOUT PIECE<\/strong><\/span> cannot slip as you sew it in place. Turn the pieces over and sew them with the SNOUT PIECE<\/strong><\/span> down. I have had a LOT of practice doing this, so I recommend sewing it by hand if you are NEW to making soft toys! \ud83d\ude00<\/p>\n

UNDERBELLY:<\/strong><\/h2>\n

STEP 9
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the UNDERBELLY PIECES<\/strong><\/span> together at the center, sewing from E \u2013 B, leaving a gap as indicated for turning and stuffing your pig.<\/p>\n

STEP 10
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the UNDERBELLY PIECES<\/strong><\/span> to the SIDE HEAD PIECES<\/strong><\/span> at the neck seam, from H – E – H, and matching the dots of the pattern pieces.<\/p>\n

EARS:<\/strong><\/h2>\n

STEP 11
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Place the fabrics for the EAR PIECES<\/strong><\/span> right sides together and sew along the sewing line for both ears.<\/p>\n

STEP 12
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Cut out the EAR PIECES<\/strong><\/span> with a 5mm\/\u00bc inch seam around this sewing line and turn them right sides out.<\/p>\n

STEP 13
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Fold the EAR PIECES<\/strong><\/span>, using the fold line of the pattern markings to guide you, and pin in this position.<\/p>\n

STEP 14
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin the EAR PIECES<\/strong><\/span> to the HEAD PIECES<\/strong><\/span>, using the pattern markings to guide you.\u00a0 Baste\/tack the EAR PIECES<\/strong><\/span> in position with the fold of the EARS<\/strong><\/span> facing the front (touching the HEAD PIECES<\/strong><\/span>!).<\/p>\n

STEP 15
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin the\u00a0 EARS, <\/strong><\/span>HEAD PIECES<\/strong> & BODY PIECES<\/strong><\/span> to the UNDERBELLY PIECES<\/strong><\/span>, remember – right sides together! \ud83d\ude00<\/p>\n

\"15\"<\/p>\n

TIP:<\/strong> I find this easiest if I do it in 3 steps. First pin the 4 trotters together and pin points A at the front and B at the back. Next I pin the piggy’s together on both sides between the front and back trotters. Lastly I pin the rest of the front and back seams. Use LOTS of pins<\/strong> so the pieces don’t slip as you sew this last seam!<\/p>\n

STEP 16
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew EARS, <\/strong><\/span>HEAD PIECES<\/strong> & BODY PIECES<\/strong><\/span> to the UNDERBELLY PIECES<\/strong><\/span> without leaving a gap.<\/p>\n

STUFFING and FINISHING:<\/strong><\/h2>\n

STEP 17
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Trim the seam allowance at the points of the trotters.<\/p>\n

STEP 18
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Turn your pig right sides out through the gap left on the UNDERBELLY PIECES<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n

STEP 19
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Stuff the HEAD<\/strong><\/span> with toy stuffing. If you are embroidering the eyes, do them now.<\/p>\n

TIP:<\/strong> I use a child’s paintbrush to push the toy stuffing into the head nice and firmly.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\n

STEP 20
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Fill the arms, and legs with plastic pellets. Do not overfill the arms and legs – they need to flop like a bean bag.<\/p>\n

Fill the rest of the body with toy stuffing.<\/p>\n

Push the toy stuffing into the body of your piggy to fill up the back area nicely…<\/p>\n

\u00a0Turn the piggy over to check the body has a nice shape!<\/p>\n

* Add more toy stuffing if there are wrinkles in the pig’s\u00a0 back.<\/strong><\/p>\n

STEP 22
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Use a ladder stitch to close the opening on the UNDERBELLY PIECES<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n

Curl the tail to make a characteristic piggy curl.<\/p>\n
