I had such fun designing and sewing my little baby Peacock toy sewing pattern<\/span><\/strong><\/a>. I took photos as I went along to create a photo tutorial<\/strong> so you can see how to put your Peacock together ~> scroll down for step-by-step photos!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I even had a ‘little helper’<\/strong>
\nwho kept trying to get in on the shot!!!! \ud83d\ude42<\/span><\/p>\n

\"How<\/p>\n

First choose some Peacock fabric:<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

A peacock can be ANY colour you like –<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Peacock<\/p>\n

<\/h2>\n

Step 1 – Start with the beak.<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Sew the BEAK PIECES<\/strong><\/span> to the BODY PIECES<\/strong><\/span>. (Match the star pattern marking so you don’t get it upside down!).<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Sew<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Step 2 – Add the WINGS.<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Sew the WING PIECES<\/strong> <\/span>together, leaving the straight edge open. Trim the fabric at the tip of each wing, then turn the WINGS<\/strong><\/span> right sides out. Pin the WING PIECES<\/strong><\/span> so that the seams lie flat then sew a line around the edge of each wing, 5mm \/ \u00bcinch in from the edge.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Sew<\/p>\n

Fold the WINGS<\/strong><\/span> in half, then using the pattern markings to guide you, pin and sew the flat edges of the wings together at the markings to form a tuck \/fold.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Make<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

You can see what the ‘tuck’ looks like from the top (on the left) and from underneath (on the right).<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"Peacock<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Pin the WINGS<\/strong><\/span> to the BODY PIECES<\/strong><\/span> at the wing dart.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Pin<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Fold the top of the BODY PIECE<\/strong><\/span> down and pin the WINGS<\/strong><\/span> inside each wing dart. Sew the WINGS<\/strong><\/span> in place.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Fold<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Wing’s ALL done! <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Here you can see how the WINGS<\/strong><\/span> look when they are sewn in place.<\/span><\/p>\n

Step 3 Add some head feathers.<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Cut 3 pieces of RIBBON<\/strong><\/span> and fold them in half to make loops. (The longer ones goes in the middle!)<\/span><\/p>\n

Pin the BODY PIECES<\/strong><\/span> together, with the RIBBON<\/strong><\/span> in between.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Pin<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Sew the BODY PIECES<\/strong><\/span> together from the top, around the BEAK<\/strong><\/span> to the bottom. (You can’t see the RIBBON<\/strong><\/span>S here BUT they are inside the BODY PIECES<\/strong><\/span>!)<\/span><\/p>\n

Step 4 – Add some eyes.<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

If you are using craft\/safety eyes, insert these now.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Step 5 – Add a Peacock’s TAIL.<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Cut 2 TAIL PIECES<\/strong><\/span> from fabric and 1 from quilter’s batting. Sew the 3 layers together. (Sew the fabric TAIL PIECES<\/strong><\/span> with right sides together, to the batting TAIL PIECE<\/strong><\/span>.). Trim the batting in the seam allowance back to the stitch line, being careful not to cut your stitching.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Clip the seam very well then turn the TAIL PIECES<\/strong><\/span> right sides out so that the batting is in between the 2 fabric pieces.Pin the TAIL<\/strong><\/span> so that it lies nice and flat, then using the pattern markings as a guide, sew the 7 top-stitching lines in the direction of the dashed arrow pattern markings. (Sewing towards the centre helps to keep the TAIL PIECES<\/strong><\/span> from bunching up as you sew the 3 layers together.)<\/span><\/p>\n

Sew the BACK PIECES<\/strong><\/span> together.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Sew<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Pin the BACK PIECES<\/strong><\/span> to the TAIL PIECES<\/strong><\/span>. Turn all these pieces over, so the TAIL<\/strong><\/span> is on top.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Pin the BOTTOM PIECE<\/strong><\/span> to the TAIL<\/strong><\/span> and BACK PIECES<\/strong><\/span>. The tail should be in between the BOTTOM PIECE<\/strong><\/span> and the BACK PIECES<\/strong><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Pin<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Pin the BOTTOM PIECE<\/span> WELL! <\/strong>This is a hard seam to pin, so take it SLOW and use LOTS of pins! <\/span><\/span>When it is sewn you will see it lies quite flat! : )<\/span>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Here is the TAIL<\/span> all sewn! <\/strong>Look how nice and flat it looks after the TAIL<\/strong><\/span> is sewn in place!<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Tail<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Turn the pieces over. <\/strong>Fold the BACK PIECES<\/strong><\/span> at point F (see the arrow in this picture)<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Sew the Peacock’s body together. <\/strong>Pin the BODY PIECES<\/strong><\/span> to the BACK & BOTTOM PIECES<\/strong><\/span> with the TAIL<\/strong><\/span>, RIBBONS<\/strong><\/span> and WINGS<\/strong><\/span> \u2018inside\u2019. Sew them together, leaving the bottom edges open.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Sew<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Step 6 – Add some Peacock Legs.<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Sew the LEG PIECES<\/strong><\/span> together in pairs. Sew the seams along the front and back of each LEG<\/strong><\/span>, remember to leave the gap for stuffing at the back of each LEG<\/strong><\/span>!<\/span><\/p>\n

Pin and sew the FOOT PIECES<\/strong><\/span> to each of the LEGS<\/strong><\/span> (sew right around without a gap.)<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Pin<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Trim the fabric at the end of each toe, clip between each toe and turn the feet right sides out. Pin the FOOT PIECES<\/strong><\/span> so that the edge seam lies flat then sew a line around the edge of the foot, 5mm \/ \u00bcinch in from the edge, just like you did with the wings.<\/span><\/p>\n

Pin the top of each LEG<\/strong><\/span> closed so that the seams line up at the middle.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Pin<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Pin the LEGS<\/strong><\/span> to the BODY PIECES<\/strong><\/span>, use the pattern markings to guide you.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Pin<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Sew the BASE PIECES<\/strong><\/span> together, leaving a gap open for stuffing. Then sew the BASE PIECES<\/strong><\/span> to the BODY, BACK and BOTTOM PIECES.<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Step 7 – Time to turn and stuff your Peacock softie.<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Turn your Peacock right sides out through the gap left on the BASE PIECES<\/strong><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

* I LOVE this part – it’s like an EXPLOSION of colors!!!!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

NOW for a clever TAIL TRICK! <\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

To MAKE SURE the TAIL<\/strong><\/span> stands upright I tack the seam of the tail so it stays lying down inside the peacock as I stuff the body.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Step 8 – Stuff your Peacock toy.<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Stuff the head area firmly with toy stuffing, then stuff the rest of the body and don\u2019t forget the feet. If you are embroidering the eyes, do these now with black thread. Sew the gaps on the BASE PIECE<\/strong><\/span> and LEG PIECES<\/strong><\/span> closed with ladder stitch.<\/span><\/p>\n
