I have made this photo tutorial so people who have purchased the pattern can SEE how to sew this stuffed toy dog! (I wanted to explain this so you are not disappointed if you have found this page via a search engine and not from the link in my Puppy Dog Pete toy sewing pattern!)<\/span>

First Choose some doggy fabric…<\/span><\/p>\n

Right, let’s sew\u00a0some doggy stuffed animals!<\/span><\/p>\n

Start with the EARS:<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n
\n

STEP 1
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the EAR PIECES<\/span> together, leaving the straight edge open and turn them right sides out.<\/p>\n

\"Dog<\/p>\n

TIP: <\/strong>Press the ears flat with a cool iron or ‘finger-press’ the ears flat like I do – no need to bother getting the iron out!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n

TAIL:<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n
\n

STEP 2a
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the TAIL PIECES<\/span> together, leaving the straight edge open. Remember to leave a gap for stuffing. It helps to make the tail stand up straight if it is stuffed AFTER the puppy is sewn and turned right sides out.<\/p>\n

STEP 2b
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Turn the TAIL PIECES<\/span> right sides out and pin them together at the base.<\/p>\n

TIP: <\/strong>I like to use a wooden chopstick to help turn the seams nicely. Run the end of the stick back and forth along the stitching inside the tail til the seam is nice and smooth<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n

STEP 3a
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin the TAIL<\/span> to one of the BODY PIECES<\/span>.<\/p>\n

STEP 3b
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin and sew the BODY PIECES<\/span> together (from A \u2013 B) with the TAIL<\/span> pinned in position between them.<\/p>\n

\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Turn the BODY PIECES<\/span> right sides out<\/strong> and check that the TAIL<\/span> is caught in the seam.<\/p>\n

ARMS and LEGS:<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n

STEP 4<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the LEG PIECES<\/span> together in pairs, leaving the straight edge open. Remember to leave a gap for stuffing and turn right sides out.<\/p>\n

STEP 5<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the ARM PIECES<\/span> together in pairs, leaving the straight edge open. Leave a gap for stuffing and turn right sides out.<\/p>\n

STEP 6a
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

I created this Pinning Diagram to show you how to pin the arms and legs to the body with the right sides of the fabric pinned together.<\/p>\n

Pin one ARM<\/span> and one LEG<\/span> to one of the BODY PIECES<\/span>.<\/p>\n

STEP 6b
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin the other ARM<\/span> and LEG<\/span> to other BODY PIECE<\/span>.<\/p>\n

STEP 6c
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Turn the BODY PIECES<\/span> wrong sides out <\/strong>now and fold the LEGS<\/span> in on top of the BODY PIECES<\/span>, with the ARMS<\/span> sticking out the front – like you see in the photo.<\/p>\n

TIP: <\/strong>Pin the arms at the front to keep them together and out of the way.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n

TUMMY:<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n

STEP 7
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the TUMMY PIECES<\/span> together from B \u2013 C.<\/p>\n

\n

STEP 8a
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin the TUMMY PIECES<\/span> to the BODY PIECES<\/span> with the ARM<\/span>S and LEGS<\/span> sandwiched in between.<\/p>\n

STEP 8b
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Tuck the ARMS inside again then sew the TUMMY PIECES<\/span> to the BODY PIECES<\/span> from D \u2013 B \u2013 D on the other side (with the ARMS and LEGS in between them!)<\/p>\n

FACE & EYES:<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

STEP 9
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the FACE PIECES<\/span> together from F \u2013 E.<\/p>\n

STEP 10
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

If you are using buttons or craft eyes, attach them now.<\/p>\n

STEP 11
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the side darts on the NOSE PIECE<\/span> next. Do NOT sew the dart at J now!<\/p>\n

STEP 12a
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin the NOSE PIECE<\/span> to the FACE PIECES<\/span>, on ONE SIDE FIRST. Pin between J on one side to the top of the NOSE PIECE<\/span> at E (where the FACE PIECES<\/span> seam is).

STEP 12b
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Hand sew the NOSE<\/span> to the FACE PIECES<\/span>. Use a double strand of sewing machine thread and a tight back stitch. Pin and sew the other side of the NOSE PIECE<\/span> to the FACE PIECES<\/span>.<\/p>\n

TIP: <\/strong>If you want to sew it on the sewing machine, use lots of pins and sew with the FACE PIECE<\/span> upwards so that you can \u2018smooth\u2019 out the \u2018wrinkles\u2019 that form in the FACE PIECE<\/span> as you try to sew these 2 different shaped curves together.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

STEP 12c
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Your puppy’s nose should look like this now. Do your best BUT don’t worry if he has a few wrinkles, sometimes they cannot be avoided!

EARS:<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

STEP 13
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin the EARS<\/span> in place on the FACE PIECE<\/span>S making sure that you match the dots of the pattern markings.

HEAD:<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

STEP 14
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the BACK HEAD PIECES<\/span> together from A-F.
\n\"back<\/p>\n

STEP 15
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin and sew the BACK HEAD PIECES<\/span> to the FACE PIECES<\/span> matching F and K. (with the ears in between!).<\/p>\n

STEP 16
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the NOSE<\/span> and HEAD PIECES<\/span> together from N on the NOSE<\/span> to L on the BACK HEAD PIECES<\/span>. Don\u2019t sew right up to the neck seam, you need to leave the neck open at G, so it\u2019s easy to sew the head to the body!<\/p>\n

STEP 17a
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Position the HEAD PIECES<\/span> to the BODY PIECES<\/span> at the neck seam matching points A, D and G.<\/p>\n

TIP: <\/strong>I find the easiest way to do this is to turn the HEAD right sides out and position it \u2018inside\u2019 the body (facing the back).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

STEP 17b
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin and sew this neck seam from G \u2013 D \u2013 A \u2013 D to G on the other side.<\/p>\n

STEP 18
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pull the HEAD PIECES<\/span> back out of the body. Pin and sew the puppy closed from L on the BACK HEAD PIECE<\/span> to M on the TUMMY PIECE<\/span>, leaving a gap for stuffing.<\/p>\n

STEP 19
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Turn your puppy right sides out through the gap left on the TUMMY PIECES<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Fill the head and body with toy stuffing.<\/p>\n

If you are embroidering the eyes, do these now with black thread and sew 3 French knots for whisker-spots on each side.<\/p>\n

Sew the gap on the TUMMY<\/span> closed with ladder stitch.<\/p>\n

Fill the ARMS<\/span>, LEGS<\/span> and TAIL<\/span> firmly with toy stuffing and use a ladder stitch to close the openings on them.<\/p>\n
