I have made this photo tutorial so people who have purchased the pattern can SEE how to sew a toy iguana (I wanted to explain this so you are not disappointed if you have found this page via a search engine and not from the link in my Igor Iguana sewing pattern!)<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

First choose some fabric<\/span><\/h2>\n

You can\u00a0 sew your Iguana toy from most fabrics, non-stretch fabrics (like cotton, corduroy and quilting fabrics) as well as stretchy\/knit fabrics (like fleece, velour, chenille, minky and similar fabrics). <\/span><\/p>\n

You can sew an iguana in any colour!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Right, let’s get sewing!<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We start with the LEGS:<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n
\n

STEP 1<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Glue the pattern pages onto card or thick paper and cut out the pattern pieces to make your templates. Place the fabric for the LEG PIECES<\/strong><\/span> right sides together and trace out the leg onto the wrong side of the fabric. Do not cut out the LEG PIECE<\/span>S yet!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 2<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the LEG PIECES<\/span><\/strong> together on the sewing line<\/span>. Cut around the sewing line with a 5mm\/\u00bcinch seam allowance.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 3<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Clip the seam allowance especially where it is really curved and between the toes and turn the LEGS<\/strong><\/span> right sides out. I like to use a wooden chopstick to turn the LEGS<\/strong><\/span> out nicely!<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 4a
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin the LEG PIECES<\/strong><\/span> so the LEG<\/strong><\/span> is nice and flat then, using the pattern markings as a guide, sew the line of top stitching for the ‘toe-nail line’.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

This will give your iguana
\nnice long nails!<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 4b
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

REPEAT for the other 3 LEGS<\/strong><\/span>. Here is a close up picture of the top stitching on the LEG PIECES<\/strong><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 5
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Stuff the legs, leaving the top 10mm\/\u00bdinch unstuffed. Sew the LEG PIECES<\/strong><\/span> closed along the straight edge and put them aside for now.<\/span><\/p>\n

HEAD:<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

STEP 6a<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin one of the HEAD PIECES<\/strong><\/span> to the FOREHEAD PIECE<\/strong><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 6b<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew this HEAD<\/strong><\/span> and FOREHEAD PIECE<\/strong><\/span> together from A-B.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 6c<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the other HEAD PIECE<\/strong><\/span> to the FOREHEAD<\/strong><\/span> on the other side.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 7a<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

If you are using CRAFT EYES<\/strong><\/span> insert them now. Use the FELT EYE TEMPLATE<\/strong><\/span> to cut out 2 eye-shaped pieces to go under the craft eyes. (Choose a bright, contrasting colour). Cut a cross in the centre of each felt piece so you can place the EYE PIECES<\/strong><\/span> between the CRAFT EYES<\/strong><\/span> and the HEAD PIECES<\/strong><\/span> when you insert the eyes.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 7b<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Try and line up the FELT EYE PIECE<\/strong><\/span> with the seam of the FOREHEAD<\/strong><\/span> and HEAD PIECES<\/strong><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 8
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the BEARD PIECES<\/strong><\/span> together. Cut a 7\u00bdcm\/3inch piece of 5mm\/\u00bcinch wide elastic.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 9
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Stretch the elastic so you can pin it in place on the BEARD PIECES<\/strong><\/span> as shown on the pattern markings. Sew the elastic to the BEARD PIECES<\/strong><\/span> making sure to secure the ends well.<\/span><\/p>\n

TIP: <\/strong>STRETCH the elastic out as you sew it, so the fabric and elastic are flat. It will ”bounce back” to create the wrinkles when you have sewn it onto the BEARD PIECES<\/strong><\/span>!<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n

STEP 10
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the BEARD PIECES<\/strong><\/span> to the FOREHEAD & HEAD PIECES<\/strong><\/span> with right sides together<\/span>, matching points C and D.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 11a
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Fold the BEARD PIECES<\/strong><\/span> right sides together at the darts and pin the darts closed.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 11b<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the darts closed. I’ve added a red dashed line in this photo to make it easier for you to see where to sew the darts!<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 12a
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Place the LINING PIECE<\/strong><\/span> on top of the BEARD PIECES<\/strong><\/span>. Pin through all 3 layers – the LINING PIECE<\/strong><\/span>, the BEARD PIECES<\/strong><\/span>, and the bottom layer which is made up of the FOREHEAD AND HEAD PIECES<\/strong><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 12b<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Check that you have the BEARD PIECES<\/strong><\/span> sandwiched in between the other 2 layers, then sew all 3 layers together. (The LINING PIECE<\/strong><\/span>,\u00a0 the BEARD PIECES<\/strong><\/span>, and the FOREHEAD AND HEAD PIECE<\/strong><\/span>S.)<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 13
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin the LINING PIECE<\/strong><\/span> and BEARD PIECES<\/strong><\/span> together at the neck seam. (You don\u2019t need to sew the LINING<\/strong><\/span> to the BEAR<\/strong>D<\/strong><\/span>, it will be sewn when the head is sewn to the body!) Put the head aside.<\/span><\/p>\n

BODY:<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

STEP 14
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the TUMMY PIECES<\/strong><\/span> together from G \u2013 H, leaving the gap open for turning. Sew the BODY PIECES<\/strong><\/span> together from J \u2013 K.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 15
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin 2 LEGS<\/strong><\/span> to one BODY PIECE<\/strong><\/span> making sure the toes face towards the front of your iguana!<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 16
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin and sew the TUMMY PIECES<\/strong><\/span> to the same BODY PIECE<\/strong><\/span>, sew them together from L \u2013 H, with the LEGS<\/strong><\/span> sandwiched in between.<\/span><\/p>\n

TIP: <\/strong>I find it\u2019s much easier to do the legs on one side of the iguana first<\/strong>, then the other side so that I am not working with 4 dangling legs at once!<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n

STEP 17
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin the other 2 LEGS<\/strong><\/span> to the other BODY PIECE<\/strong><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 18a
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin the TUMMY PIECES<\/strong><\/span> to the other BODY PIECE<\/strong><\/span> from L \u2013 H and pin the BODY PIECES<\/strong><\/span> together from H – K.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 18b<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew this seam closed from L – H – K at the tail.<\/span><\/p>\n

NECK SEAM:<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

STEP 19a
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin and sew the head to the body at the neck seam. I find the best way to do this is to turn the head right sides out and place it on top of the body, facing towards the tail.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 19b<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

I’ve added a red line for you to see where to sew the head to the body.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 20a
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Cut the SPIKE PIECE<\/strong><\/span> from felt.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 20b<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin the SPIKE PIECE<\/strong><\/span> in place between N on the FOREHEAD PIECE<\/strong><\/span> and J on the BODY PIECES<\/strong><\/span>.\u00a0 (You may need to push the LEGS<\/strong><\/span> down firmly to get them inside the Iguana’s body!)<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 21
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the Iguana closed with the felt SPIKE<\/strong><\/span> sandwiched in the seam. (You can just see the green felt sticking out a tiny bit along the row of pins in the photo.)<\/span><\/p>\n

ASSEMBLY:<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

STEP 22
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Turn the Iguana right side out through the gap left on the TUMMY PIECES<\/strong><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 23 <\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Stuff the tail first, using small bits of stuffing for the tail tip. Stuff the head and chest area firmly next. Finish stuffing the body\/tummy of your Iguana.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 24<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the gap closed on the TUMMY PIECES<\/strong><\/span> with a ladder stitch.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\n

STEP 25<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Cut out the SPOT PIECES<\/strong><\/span> from felt. Pin them on the side of the Iguana so they cover the seams where the BODY, TUMMY, BEARD and HEAD PIECES<\/strong><\/span> meet up. Sew the SPOT PIECES<\/strong><\/span> on with embroidery thread using a blanket stitch. I leave the felt EYE PIECE<\/strong>S<\/strong><\/span> as they are but you can also sew them down with a blanket stitch, if you like.<\/span><\/p>\n
