Fleece is a knit fabric. It stretches to give the animals a really cute character, it feels so soft and cuddly, and best of all I like it because it\u2019s easy to sew. It\u2019s just so \u2018forgiving\u2019 \u2013 all you need to do is catch a bit of the fleece in the seam and it will hold! It also does not fray so your toys will be very hard-wearing!\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-18425 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.funkyfriendsfactory.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Soft-toy-bunny-platypus-m.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"216\" height=\"302\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.funkyfriendsfactory.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Soft-toy-bunny-platypus-m.jpg 216w, https:\/\/blog.funkyfriendsfactory.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Soft-toy-bunny-platypus-m-215x300.jpg 215w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 216px) 100vw, 216px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #800080;\">OTHER KNIT FABRICS (stretchy fabrics):<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 12pt;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Besides fleece, I have made toys from other knit fabrics like <\/span><b>chenille, Shannon Fabric&#8217;s Cuddle, minky, velvet<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><b>velour<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. I began sewing with fleece and when I discovered quilting cottons, the funky prints and incredible designs blew my mind! Other woven fabrics you can use are <\/span><b>poplin<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>calico<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>dress fabrics and even old curtains!<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 12pt;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Linda Nichols dog looks as though he knows these super-sized Funky Friends used to be the living room curtains! The reason is because they need a LOT of stretch to get the right shape or they may be difficult, or even impossible to sew if you use a fabric that doesn\u2019t have any stretch in it. <strong>So take care to read the Recommended Fabrics Section!\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-18423 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.funkyfriendsfactory.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Recommended-FABRICS-300x247.jpg\" alt=\"Recommended FABRICS Section\" width=\"300\" height=\"247\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><b>FELT:<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000; font-size: 12pt;\">Felt is also an awesome fabric to use for toy making. I find wool felt is nicer to work with because the cut edges of the felt are firm and won\u2019t disintegrate when you stitch.
