I have made this photo tutorial so people who have purchased the pattern can SEE how to sew a toy flamingo. (I wanted to explain this so you are not disappointed if you have found this page via a search engine and not from the link in my flamingo sewing pattern!)<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

First choose some fabric<\/span><\/h1>\n

I sewed my flamingos with quilting cottons but would be nice in stretch fabrics like fleece, chenille or minky for a snuggly feel! <\/span><\/p>\n

You can sew a toy flamingo in any colour!<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Right, let’s get sewing!<\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n

WE’LL START WITH THE FACE…<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n
\n

STEP 1<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Cut the FACE PIECES<\/span><\/strong> from white felt. Transfer the pattern markings onto the FACE FELT PIECES<\/span><\/strong> and pin them onto the HEAD PIECES<\/span><\/strong> using the pattern markings as a guide. Sew them in place.<\/p>\n

TIP:<\/strong> Use a matching thread when you sew the felt pieces on, so that you won\u2019t see the thread if your stitching is a bit crooked! \ud83d\ude42<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

STEP 2<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin and sew the BEAK PIECES<\/span><\/strong> to the HEAD PIECES<\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

STEP 3<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Using black embroidery\/perle thread, sew the nose and mouth lines with straight\/back stitches.<\/p>\n

STEP 4
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

If you are using craft eyes, insert these now.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

TIP:<\/strong> If you don’t have yellow craft eyes you can use felt circles instead. Felt is great because it is best NOT to use craft eyes if you are making the toy for a baby or child under the age of 3 years old.  <\/p><\/blockquote>\n

WINGS:<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n
\n

STEP 5
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the WING PIECES<\/span><\/strong> together in pairs and clips the seams especially around the curves.<\/p>\n

 <\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\n

STEP 6
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Turn the WING PIECES<\/span><\/strong> right sides out and pin them so that they lie flat then sew a line around the edge of each wing 5mm \/ \u00bcinch in from the edge.\"\"<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

STEP 7
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Leave the flat edge\u00a0 of the WING PIECES<\/span><\/strong> open for stuffing. Stuff the wings with toy stuffing, using only a little bit of stuffing, so they are quite flat (thin). Pin the stuffing opening closed and sew a line of stitching on each wing \u2013 use the pattern markings to guide you.<\/p>\n

STEP 8
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Fold the HEAD PIECES<\/span><\/strong> right sides together to sew the neck darts.<\/p>\n

 <\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\n

STEP 9
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin the WING PIECES<\/span><\/strong> in position on the HEAD PIECES<\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\n

STEP 10
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin and sew the BODY PIECES<\/span><\/strong> to the HEAD PIECES<\/span><\/strong> with the WING PIECES<\/span><\/strong> sandwiched in between.<\/p>\n

 <\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\n

STEP 11
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin the seam you just sewed so that is lies towards the front and sew a line of top-stitching 3mm (1\/8th<\/sup> of an inch) from the seam.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

*** Don’t leave this step out – it’s important because this makes the wings lie backwards and also secures them wings firmly in the seam.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Now for those loooooong LEGS:<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n
\n

STEP 12
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the LEG PIECES<\/span><\/strong> together in pairs. Turn them right sides out.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

TIP: <\/strong>I use a chopstick for this, but you can use the back end of a children\u2019s paintbrush too.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

 <\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\n

STEP 13
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin the LEG PIECES<\/span><\/strong> flat at the top and use a fabric pen to mark the top-sewing lines 12mm\/\u00bd inch from the top of the LEG PIECES<\/span><\/strong> and at the \u201cknee\u201d.<\/p>\n

 <\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\n

STEP 14
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew across the leg, about 12mm (\u00bd inch) from the top. Stuff the upper part of each leg with just enough stuffing so you can pin the legs flat at the ”knees”.<\/p>\n

 <\/p><\/blockquote>\n

STEP 15
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew across the LEG PIECES<\/strong><\/span> again at the ”knees”.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

TIP:\u00a0<\/strong>I sew across the legs at each \u2018knee\u2019 at least 3 times. This stitching creates a knee and allows the legs bend so you don\u2019t want the stitching to come undone with lots of play!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Sewing the GUSSET:<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n
\n

STEP 16
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin and sew the LEG PIECES<\/span><\/strong> to the FRONT GUSSET PIECE<\/span><\/strong>.\"\"<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\n

STEP 17
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Sew the BACK GUSSET PIECE<\/span><\/strong> to the LEG PIECES<\/span><\/strong> as the sides ONLY. Do not sew across the tops of the legs as you need to leave a gap open for stuffing the flamingo.<\/p>\n

TIP:\u00a0<\/strong>I pin some pins sideways(ACROSS) the stuffing gap so I do not forget to leave this open!
\n\"\"<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\n

STEP 18
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin and sew the GUSSET PIECES<\/span><\/strong> to the HEAD&BODY PIECES<\/span><\/strong>, on one side first. \"\"<\/p>\n

 <\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\n

STEP 19
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Pin the GUSSET PIECES<\/span><\/strong> to the HEAD&BODY PIECES<\/span><\/strong>, on the other side, pin the rest of the flamingo together \u2013 the BODY, HEAD and BEAK PIECES<\/strong><\/span>. Sew around the pink<\/strong> bits of the flamingo, from C around the HEAD PIECES<\/span><\/strong>, GUSSET PIECES<\/span><\/strong> and back up to D.<\/p>\n

 <\/p><\/blockquote>\n

STEP 20<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Change to black thread, if you can, and sew the BEAK PIECES<\/span><\/strong> together.<\/p>\n

STEP 21
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Clips the seams, especially the curved parts and turn your flamingo right sides out through the stuffing gap between the GUSSET PIECES<\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

TIP:\u00a0<\/strong>The felt makes the flamingo\u2019s face a bit stiff. I find the best way to turn the flamingo\u2019s head is to push the BEAK PIECES<\/span><\/strong> back into the head, down the neck and out the stuffing gap with a turning tool\/chopstick.\"\"<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

FEET & LEGS:<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

STEP 22
\n<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Stuff the lower part of the legs with toy stuffing. Pin the base of the LEG PIECES<\/span><\/strong> to the HEEL PIECES<\/span><\/strong>. Pin and sew the TOE PIECES<\/span><\/strong> to the HEEL PIECES<\/span><\/strong> with the LEG PIECES<\/span><\/strong> sandwiched in between.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\n

STEP 23 <\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Fold the legs one side… \"\"<\/p>\n

… so you can pin the FOOT PIECES<\/span><\/strong> to the HEEL&TOE PIECES<\/span><\/strong>. Sew the around the FOOT PIECES<\/span><\/strong> leaving a gap for turning where the LEG PIECES<\/span><\/strong> stick out!<\/p>\n

STEP 24<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Turn the feet right sides out through the turning gap and stuff them firmly with toy stuffing. Sew the opening closed with a ladder stitch.

\n

STEP 25<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Stuff the rest of the flamingo very firmly, especially the neck, so it will stay upright and not be too floppy! Sew the stuffing opening closed with a ladder stitch.<\/p>\n
