I have made this photo tutorial so people who have purchased the pattern can SEE how to sew a toy elephant! (I wanted to explain this so you are not disappointed if you have found this page via a search engine and not from the link in my elephant sewing pattern!)<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

First choose some fabric<\/span><\/h1>\n

You can\u00a0 sew your elephant toy from most fabrics, non-stretch fabrics (like cotton, corduroy and quilting fabrics) as well as stretchy\/knit fabrics (like fleece, velour, chenille, minky and similar fabrics). <\/span><\/p>\n

You can sew a toy elephant in any colour!<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Right, let’s get sewing!<\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

We start with the EARS:<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

STEP 1<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Sew the EAR PIECES<\/span><\/strong> together in pairs and turn them right sides out. Fold the top of each ear down as shown by the pattern markings and pin and tack (baste) the fold down so it won\u2019t slip as you sew the EARS<\/span><\/strong> in place.<\/span><\/p>\n

Next we do the HEAD & EYES:<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

STEP 2<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Sew the HEAD PIECES<\/span><\/strong> together from A \u2013 B.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 3<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Pin and tack (baste) the EARS<\/span><\/strong> in place between the pattern markings on the HEAD PIECES<\/span><\/strong>, make sure that the fold of the EAR<\/span><\/strong> is touching the HEAD PIECE<\/span><\/strong> as you pin it in position.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 4<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Pin the bottom of the EAR PIECES<\/span><\/strong> out of the way so they won\u2019t get stuck in the seams as you sew your Ellie together.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 5<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

If you are using CRAFT EYES<\/strong><\/span>, insert them now.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 6<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Sew 2 of the TUSK PIECES<\/span><\/strong> to the HEAD PIECES<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Next we sew the BODY:<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n
\n

STEP 7<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Sew the BODY PIECES<\/span><\/strong> together along the back from A \u2013 F, leaving a gap for stuffing. (which we do later, of course!)<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 8<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Fold the fabric (right side together) and sew the darts in the BODY PIECES<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 9a<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Turn the HEAD PIECES<\/strong><\/span> right side out.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 9b<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Pin and sew the HEAD PIECES<\/span><\/strong> to the BODY PIECES<\/span><\/strong> from C \u2013 A \u2013 C.<\/span><\/p>\n

TIP: <\/strong>I find the best way to do this is to place the head, between the BODY PIECES<\/span><\/strong>, so it is facing back into the body then pin it in position.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

CHEST, TUMMY & TUSKS:<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

STEP 10<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Sew the CHEST PIECE<\/span><\/strong> to the TUMMY PIECE<\/span><\/strong> from D \u2013 E.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 11<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Matching the single dot of the pattern markings, sew the FRONT LEG PIECES<\/span><\/strong> to the CHEST PIECE<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 12<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Sew the BACK LEG 1 PIECES<\/strong><\/span> to the BACK LEG 2 PIECES<\/span><\/strong>, in pairs, from G \u2013 H.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 13<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Matching the double dots of the pattern markings, sew the BACK LEG 1 PIECES<\/strong><\/span> to the TUMMY PIECE<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 14<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Sew the other 2 TUSK<\/span> PIECES<\/strong> to the CHEST PIECE<\/span><\/strong> matching the pattern markings.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 15a<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Pin the CHEST & TUMMY & LEG PIECES<\/span><\/strong> to the HEAD & BODY PIECES<\/span><\/strong>, take your time and use LOTS of pins! Sew the elephant together in 3 steps – using the SEWING DAIGRAM<\/strong> to guide you.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 15b<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

This is a close-up photo for you to see how to get a nice neat finish under your Ellie Elephant’s trunk, where the seams meet at B.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sew one side at a time. When you sew the first side (The BLACK dashed line in the photo below) stop about 5mm\/\u00bcinch from the front of the CHEST PIECE<\/span><\/strong> at B.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 15c<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

When you sew the other side, finish your stitching at the same point. (The RED dashed line in the photo below.)This way all the seams match up at point B under the trunk!<\/span><\/p>\n

TIP:<\/strong> If you are using white fabric for the TUSKS<\/span><\/strong>, sew the tusks together with WHITE thread even if it means changing thread!<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

FRONT & BACK FOOTPADS:<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

STEP 16<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Pin and sew the FRONT FOOT PADS<\/span><\/strong> to the bottom of the front legs and the BACK FOOT PAD PIECES<\/span><\/strong> to the bottom of the back legs.<\/span><\/p>\n

ASSEMBY:<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

STEP 17<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Trim the extra fabric off the ends of the TUSKS PIECES<\/span><\/strong>, clips all the seams well, especially the curved bits then turn your elephant right sides out.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 18<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Stuff the tusks and trunk first then the head area. Stuff the front and back legs, then fill the rest of the body with toy stuffing. If you are using beads or buttons for Ellie\u2019s eyes, sew them on now.<\/span><\/p>\n

TIP:<\/strong> A big, children’s paintbrush is a great tool to use when you are stuffing small parts of a softie. Use very small bits of toy stuffing and use the paintbrush to push them firmly into the tusks!<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

STEP 19<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Sew the the stuffing opening on your elephant\u2019s back closed using a ladder stitch.<\/span><\/p>\n
