I have made this photo tutorial so people who have purchased the pattern can SEE how to sew the toy duck! (I wanted to explain this so you are not disappointed if you have found this page via a search engine and not from the link in my Dilby Duck Sewing Pattern!)<\/span> <\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Choose some duck fabrics first.<\/span><\/h1>\n

A duck doesn’t have to be yellow! Have a look at these awesome feedback photos people have sent me of their Dilby Ducks in all sorts of colours and fabrics…<\/span><\/p>\n

Right, let’s sew a toy duck!<\/span><\/h1>\n

HEAD<\/span><\/h1>\n
\n

STEP 1<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Sew the\u00a0BEAK TOP PIECES<\/span><\/strong> together, from A to B.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 2<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Sew the NECK PIECE<\/span><\/strong> to the BEAK BASE PIECE<\/span><\/strong>, matching C & D.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\n

STEP 3<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Sew the BASE BEAK<\/span><\/strong> and TOP BEAK PIECES<\/span><\/strong> together, matching point B, C\/D and the star pattern markings on the sides of the BEAK PIECES<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 4<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Sew the dart at the center of the HEAD PIECE<\/span><\/strong>. (Fold the fabric right sides together to sew the dart!).<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

STEP 5a<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

With the beak right side out, pin the HEAD PIECE<\/span><\/strong> to the NECK<\/span> and<\/span> BEAK PIECES<\/span><\/strong>, matching points A, C\/D and E on both sides.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 5b<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Sew the HEAD PIECE<\/span><\/strong> to the NECK<\/span><\/strong> and BEAK PIECES<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 6a<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Pin the edge of the BEAK<\/span><\/strong> so that the seam lies flat.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 6b<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Sew a line around the edge of the BEAK<\/span><\/strong>, 5mm \/ \u00bcinch in from the edge, to create a pouty lip!<\/span><\/p>\n

TIP:<\/strong> This seems like such a small detail – BUT please don’t leave out this simple step – it will REALLY make your duck so much cuter! \ud83d\ude42<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n

BODY<\/span><\/h1>\n

STEP 7a<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Sew the TUMMY<\/span> PIECES<\/span><\/strong> together, from F – G.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 7b<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Pin and sew the HEAD and NECK PIECES<\/span><\/strong> to the TUMMY<\/span> PIECES<\/span><\/strong> together, matching point F.<\/span><\/p>\n

WINGS<\/span><\/h1>\n
\n

STEP 8a<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Place the fabric for the WINGS<\/span><\/strong> right sides together. Sew the WINGS<\/strong><\/span> on the sewing lines.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 8b<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Cut the WINGS<\/strong><\/span> out with a 5mm\/\u00bcinch seam allowance (outside the sewing line).<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 8c<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Clip the seams well especially around the very curved parts, the turn the WINGS<\/strong><\/span> right sides out. Stuff a small amount of toy stuffing into each WING<\/strong><\/span>, see the pattern markings as a guide.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 9<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Pin the wings in position on the TUMMY PIECES<\/span><\/strong> as indicated by the pattern markings.<\/span><\/p>\n

BACK<\/span><\/h1>\n
\n

STEP 10<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Sew the BACK PIECES<\/span><\/strong> together, from H to J.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

STEP 11<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Sew the BACK PIECES<\/span><\/strong> to the HEAD and TUMMY PIECES<\/span><\/strong> with the wings in between.<\/span><\/p>\n

FEET<\/span><\/h1>\n
\n

STEP 12a<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Sew the FOOT PIECES<\/span><\/strong> together from K \u2013 L and M \u2013 N, leaving a gap open for stuffing later!<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 12b<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Sew the FOOT PAD PIECES<\/span><\/strong> to the FOOT PIECE<\/strong>S<\/span>, (sew right around without a gap.)<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 12c<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Turn the feet right sides out and pin them so that the edge seam lies flat then sew a line around the edge of the feet, 5mm \/ \u00bcinch in from the edge, like you did with the beak.\"Duck<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

STEP 13<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Pin the FOOT PIECES<\/span><\/strong> to the TUMMY PIECES<\/span><\/strong> matching point K and M. (CHECK<\/strong> that the toes are pointing into the tummy and towards the head, otherwise they will be upside down!) Pin the darts of the TUMMY PIECE<\/span><\/strong> with the LEGS<\/span><\/strong> in between then sew them closed.<\/span><\/p>\n

BASE<\/span><\/h1>\n

STEP 14a<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Sew the BASE PIECES<\/span><\/strong> together from G \u2013 J, remembering to leave a gap open for stuffing your duck. Pin the BASE PIECES<\/span><\/strong> to the TUMMY and BACK PIECES<\/span><\/strong> matching points G and point J.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 14b<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Hold the duck in a ‘standing up’ position as you sew the BASE PIECES<\/span><\/strong> to the TUMMY and BACK PIECES<\/span><\/strong>. This makes it easier to sew around the curves and remove the pins as you go.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 15<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Turn your duck right sides out through the gap left in the BASE PIECES<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

TIP:<\/strong> If you are using CRAFT EYES<\/strong><\/span>, insert these now. I have a photo tutorial for inserting craft eyes<\/span><\/strong><\/a> on my blog ~><\/span><\/p>\n

ASSEMBLY<\/span><\/h1>\n

STEP 16<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Stuff the duck’s head and body firmly with toy stuffing.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 17<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

If you are using BEADS<\/strong><\/span> for your duck’s eyes, sew two 9mm beads in place just above the beak seam. (You can use beads or buttons if the toy will be for a child older than 3 years old).<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 18<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Stuff the feet firmly and sew the gaps at the back of the FOOT PIECES<\/strong><\/span> closed with a ladder stitch.<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 19<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Sew the gap in the BASE PIECES<\/span><\/strong> closed with a ladder stitch.<\/span><\/p>\n
